국문 초록

본 연구는 한국의 FTA 발효에 따른 효과를 추정하기 위해 패널모형을 이용하여 한국의 비철금속이 수출에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 한국의 130개국 비철금속 교역상대국을 대상으로 2006년부터 2017년까지 연도별 자료를 이용하여 FTA 미발효국(협상 및 준비국)과 FTA 발효국으로 구분해 DID(Different in Different: DID)추정법을 통하여 FTA 효과를 추정하였다. 또한 상대교역국의 연도별 수출단가 대비 수입단가로 나타낸 교역국의 교역조건 변화가 한국의 비철금속 수출에 주는 영향에 대해서 살펴보았다. 130개 국가 모집단 대상 실증분석 결과를 보면 첫째, 한국의 상대 교역국에 대한 수출량은 상대 교역국의 경제 규모를 나타내는 실질 GDP와 비례하지 않았다. 즉 교역국의 경제 규모 및 시장 규모를 나타내는 GDP가 증가할수록 모집단에서 한국의 수출량은 감소하였으며 GDP와 관련성이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, FTA 체결과 미체결국가 간의 설명변수(Explanatory Variable)로 DID 추정결과 FTA 체결 전(FTABefore)은 1% 수준에서 유의미한 부(-)의 효과로 수출이 감소하였지만, FTA 체결 후(FTAAfter)에 따른 DID 추정결과 1% 수준에서 유의미한 양(+)의 효과로 수출이 증가함을 보여주었다. 이 결론은 FTA 발효와 한국의 비철금속 수출에 강한 양(+)의 관계를 나타내며, 이는 FTA를 통한 상대교역국의 관세 인하로 한국의 비철금속 수출 증진을 의미한다. 이는 FTA 체결로 인한 한국의 비철금속 수출 증진에 효과가 있음을 나타낸다.

영문 초록

Purpose : This study seeks to analyze the effect of Korean nonferrous metals on exports by estimating the impact had by Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). Research design, data, methodology : By focusing on 130 of Korea’s nonferrous metals trading partners, we collected yearly data from 2006 to 2017. The data was divided between countries where an FTA took effect and those countries where an FTA had not taken effect (such as those under negotiation and in preparation). This allowed an estimation of the FTA effect through the double difference (DID) estimation method. In addition, this study examines the effect of trade conditions on the export of nonferrous metals in Korea, which is expressed as the unit price of imported goods compared to the export unit price across each year. Results : According to the result of empirical analysis of 130 nations, first, the exports to Korea’s trading partners are not proportional to the partner countries’ real GDP. That is, the greater the GDP, taken as a measure of the scale of economy and market, the greater the decrease in Korean exports among the test group- thus proving no relationship between GDP and trade. Second, when estimating the DID results by explanatory variable between FTA signatories and non-signatories. The results show that exports decreased with a 1% significant negative effect before the implementation of an FTA, whereas exports increased with a 1% significant positive effect after the implementation of an FTA. Conclusions : The conclusions of the study show a strong positive (+) relationship between the effect of the FTA and Korea’s export of non-ferrous metals, which means promoting Korea’s export of non-ferrous metals by lowering tariffs by relative trading countries through the FTA. This implies that Korea benefits from the promotion effect in terms of nonferrous metal exports due to the FTA implementation.
