국문 초록

코로나19로 인한 비대면 사회가 순식간에 찾아왔다. 비대면 사회는 무엇보다도 교회에 큰 충격과 변화를 가져다주었다. 비대면 사회의 모습을 “새로운 기준의 사회”라는 의미의 “뉴노멀”(New Normal)이라 표현하기도 한다. 그런데, 비대면 사회의 도래가 단순히 코로나19로 인한 것이라고는 볼 수 없다. 이미 20세기 말부터 시작된 사회로 보는 것이 타당하다. 비대면 사회의 부정적인 측면과 긍정적인 측면히 공히 존재한다. 먼저 부정적인 측면은 ①비인간화와 ②새로운 계층화(차별화)이다. 반면, 긍정적인 측면은, ①제4차 산업혁명의 촉진, ②과잉 컨택트로 인한 부작용 해소, ③생태계 복원, ④교회의 본질 회복의 기회 등이다. 과연 이러한 특성의 비대면 시대가 종식되고 이전의 대면 사회로 돌아갈 수 있을까? 대부분의 학자들은 그렇게는 되지는 않으리라 전망한다. 그렇다면 우리는 이 비대면 사회에 적응해야만 한다. 교회는 이 비대면 사회 속에서도 살아남고 번성해야만 한다. 그렇다면 그 방법이 무엇인가? 그 방법은 1~3세기의 초기 교회들에서 찾아야 한다. 초기 교회들 역시 로마제국의 박해와 전염병 속에서 살아남았다. 그들은 살아남은 것을 넘어서 번성했다. 그렇다면 초기 교회들로부터 배우는 오늘날 비대면 시대를 위한 목회 원리는 무엇인가? ①공동체 삶을 강화하는 것이다. ②세상에 긍휼을 베푸는 것이다. ③교회의 공공성을 회복하는 것이다. ④역설적으로, 가능하고 필수적인 영역의 대면을 더욱 공고히 하는 것이다. ⑤가정과 소그룹 중심의 작은 목회를 조직화한다. ⑥이 시대에 통용되는 목회 매개체를 적극적으로 활용하는 것이다. 이 시대의 매우 중요한 목회의 매개체는 다름 아닌 제4차 산업혁명의 결과물들이다.

영문 초록

The noncontact society that COVID-19 brought feels like it has come in an instant, forcing churches to adapt to this reality. But in reality, the advent of social distancing cannot be attributed to COVID-19 alone; rather, this new society has been taking shape since the end of the 20th century. As with all things, there are both negative and positive consequences to this socially distanced era. On the negative side, it has led to greater dehumanization and amplified existing inequalities in society. On the positive side, it has led to the continued burgeoning of a fourth industrial revolution, the mitigation of ills due to excessive physical contact, the restoration of the ecosystem, and an opportunity to restore the essence of the Church. Given the difficulty of the adjustments that the world and the church has had to go through, it must be asked: will the “new normal” ever end? Most scholars are not optimistic. Thus, we must adapt more permanently to this “new normal” of noncontact society. This, of course, applies to the Church as well. The Church must not only survive but thrive in this era. What can we learn about pastoral ministry in today’s era from the model of those early churches? First, churches must strengthen and deepen their communal life. Second, churches must show mercy to those around them. Third, the public witness of the church must be restored. Fourth, paradoxically, churches must find creative ways to enhance social interaction where possible and where essential. Fifth, churches must decentralize to focus on families and small groups. Sixth, churches must innovate to effectively and actively use the methods and tools that are provided for this era.
