『청구도』와 목판본 『대동여지도』의 찾아보기 방식에 대한 연구

국문 초록

김정호의 『청구도』와 목판본 『대동여지도』는 지도 면의 숫자가 각각 312면과 213면이나 되어, 찾아보기방식이 개발되지 않으면 찾아보기가 쉽지 않은 지도다. 김정호는 지도책의 형식을 취했던 『청구도』에서는 근현대의 대축척 지도책에서 나타나는 찾아보기지도(색인도)와 동일한 ｢본조팔도주현도총목｣을 혁신적으로 개발하여 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있도록 하였다. 지도첩의 형식을 취했던 목판본 『대동여지도』에서는 동서와 남북으로 이어보기 편리한 점에 초점을 맞추다보니까 찾아보기지도(색인도)를 적용할 수 없었고, 어쩔 수 없이 지도첩에 수록된 고을의 이름을 표지에 순서대로 적어주는 차선책을 택하였다. 이용의 관점에서 『청구도』와 목판본 『대동여지도』의 가장 큰 특징은 전자는 찾아보기 쉬운 지도책이고, 후자는 이어보기 쉬운 지도첩이라는 점이다. 김정호는대축척 지도 제작의 전반부에서는 찾아보기 쉬운 『청구도』, 후반부에서는 이어보기 쉬운 목판본 『대동여지도』 의 편찬에 주력했다. 『청구도』와 목판본 『대동여지도』는 후자가 전자보다 더 뛰어나다기보다는 서로 보완 관계에 있는 작품이며, 김정호는 이용자들에게 서로 다른 특징을 갖고 있는 지도 작품을 편찬하여 선택할 수 있도록해주었다

영문 초록

Kim Jeong-ho’s Cheonggudo and the woodblock version of Daedongyeojido have 312 and 213 map pages, respectively, which make it difficult to find relevant information unless a browsing pattern is established. In Cheonggudo, Kim Jeong-ho used the form of maps, “Bonjopaldo Juhyeondo,” which are similar to the browsing map (index) found in modern-day large-scale maps, making it easy to find information. In the woodblock print Daedongyeojido, which took the form of a map booklet, it was not possible to apply an index map because it was made to focus on the convenience of connecting east and west and south and north. Inevitably, the names of the towns contained in the map book were written in order and printed on the cover. From the perspective of usage, the biggest characteristic of Cheonggudo and the woodblock version of Daedongyeojido is that the former is an easy-to-find map book, and the latter is an easy-to-be-connected map booklet. Kim Jeong-ho focused on compiling the easy-to-find Cheonggudo in the first half of the large-scale map production, and the easy-to-be-connected woodblock version Daedongyeojido in the second half. Cheonggudo and woodblock version Daedongyeojido are complementary works rather than the latter being superior to the former, and Kim Jung-ho compiled the maps so that users can select maps that meet their needs.
