국문 초록

이 논문은 4·3과 2·28의 비교사 연구를 위한 시론적 성격의 글이다. 민주주의체제로의 이행 과정에서 폭력의 역사를 재평가하고 자국민의 대량죽음에 대한 재사회화를 시도해 왔다는 점에서도 4·3과 2·28은 유사한 역사적 경험으로 인식된다. 대표적으로 4·3의 ‘희생자’와 2·28의 ‘수난자’는 각 사건이 법적·제도적으로 재평가되는 과정에서 새롭게 등장한 집단으로 공적 해결의 주요 성과로 공표될 뿐 아니라 해당 사회의 독특한 갈등 지형을 반영한다. 그러나 공식 희생자가 만들어지는 과정은 다른 양상을 보인다. 제외규정을 명시하는 4·3의 배타적 선별 방식과 달리, 2·28의 이행기 정의는 류큐인, 조선인과 같은 에스닉 마이너리티(외국인)를 본성인(대만인)과 동등한 ‘수난자’로 받아들임으로써 ‘족군 융합’이라는 개념과 실천을 대만 사회 안팎으로 확장시킬 수 있는 계기를 마련했다. 이러한 ‘수난자’의 다국적화, 다민족화는 2·28의 경계를 규정해온 국민국가주의를 극복하고 역사 인식의 다변화를 촉발한다. 반면, 4·3의 과거청산은 2·28을 ‘거울’이자 선행 모델로 삼으면서도 대만 사회의 자기 반성과 성찰을 통해 갱신되어 가는 ‘수난자’를 참조하지 않는다.

영문 초록

This paper is a introductory study to lay a foundation for comparative studies of Jeju 4.3 and Taiwan 2.28. The purpose of this study is to compare Jeju 4.3 and Taiwan 2.28 through the official ‘victim’ which is announced as a major achievement in the public solution of the two cases. The victims of the Jeju 4.3 and Taiwan 2.28 are newly emerging groups in the process of reevaluating each case legally and institutionally, reflecting the special context of each society. Jeju 4.3 and Taiwan 2.28 have the similar historical experiences in that each society after democratization has reevaluated the history of violence and attempted to resocialize the mass death of its own people. However, the process of designating official victims shows a different aspect. Unlike Jeju 4.3, the transitional definition of Taiwan 2.28 has laid the foundation for accepting ethnic minorities such as Ryukyuin and Koreans as ‘a victim’ equivalent to the native people and expanding the concept and practice of ‘national harmony’ to and from Taiwanese society. The multinationalization and multi-ethnicization of the official ‘victim’ are contribute to overcoming the nationalism that has defined the boundaries of Taiwan 2.28 and to diversifying the perception of history.
