국문 초록

본 논문은 분리, 분단, 통합, 통일을 이론적 관점에서 살펴보고 있다. 분리, 분단, 통합, 통일이 내포하고 있는 주개념을 적용하면서 기능주의, 신기능주의, 다원주의, 연방주의 통합이론을 검토하고 있으며, 사례연구를 통해 경험적 접근을 시도하고 있다. 역사적으로 분단국가에서 통일을 성취한 사례(베트남, 예멘, 독일)가 있고, 현존하는 분단국가(한반도, 키프로스, 아일랜드, 중국)가 있다. 그리고 단일국가(소련, 유고슬로비아, 수단, 체코슬로바키아, 인도)에서 여러 국가로 분리되어 통일을 지향하지 않는 사례가 있다. 또한 유로존과 유럽연합의 등장을 통해 경제통합의 한 과정을 엿 볼 수 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 사례연구를 통해 살아있는 교훈을 얻고, 이를 이론적으로 접목해 정치·군사적 대결과 체제⋅이념적 대립에 놓여 있는 한반도가 나아가야 할 바람직한 방향을 제시하고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper studies the theoretical perspective with respect to separation, division, integration, and unification. It examines integration theories such as functionalism, neo-functionalism, pluralism, and federalism in application of concepts of separation, division, integration, and unification, and makes plans to carry out an empirical approach throughout the case studies. Historically, there are cases of national unification from division (Vietnam, Yemen, Germany), and of existing divided nations (Korean Peninsula, Cyprus, Ireland, China), and other cases of not aiming for unification after several national separation (the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Sudan, Czechoslovakia, India). At the same time, it can peep into the economic integration process by means of rising of Eurozone and EU. The paper obtains living lessons from such case studies, and suggests the divided Korean peninsula under a condition of political military and ideological confrontation for a desirable direction to go forward by attaching case studies and theories.
