영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is any relationship between the clinical competency and the personality type of student nurses, as classified by DISC. The subjects of the study were 323 junior and senior students in the department of nursing in a college in Y-city, who have joined in a clinical practice for over 6 months. Data collection was conducted from September 4 to 28, 2007 through structured questionnaires. Using the SPSS 13.0 program, data was analyzed through percentages, means, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA. The results of these analyses indicated that there is a statistically significant relationship between the DISC and the clinical competency of nursing students (F=9.798, P=.000). The means for each DISC are: 3.60 in Influence, 3.52 in Conscientiousness, 3.33 in Dominance, 3.24 in Steadiness. Accordingly, the present study proposes that it is necessary to invent educational programs to develop clinical competency that are tailored to the personality types(DISC) of the individual nursing student.
