유기견과 함께하는 동물매개교육(AAE) 프로그램의 개발 및 적용이 초등학생의 인성에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 유기견을 활용한 동물매개교육이 초등학생들의 인성 함양에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 조사하였다. 동물매개교육의 개념 및 선행연구를 기반으로 30차시의 프로그램을 개발 후, 학교 수업과정에 적용하였다. 인성 함양을 알아보는 검사지는 자신감, 자기통제, 자아존중, 성실, 책임 및 협동의 6개 항목을 바탕으로 구성되었다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 동물매개교육 프로그램은 2015개정교육과정의 교과 성취기준 중심의 교육과정 통합 및 재구성의 사례인 동시에, 학교 교육과정 중의 학생들을 대상으로 한 실증 연구이다. 뿐만 아니라 교실 내 동물을 매개로 하는 교과 교육 및 창의적 체험활동의 30차시 프로그램의 최초 개발 및 적용이라는 것에 의미를 가진다. 둘째, 동물매개교육 프로그램은 6개의 인성 덕목에 모두 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 자신감, 성실 및 협동에서 유의미한 효과가 인정되었다(P<.05). 동물매개교육 프로그램을 통한 살아있는 생명체와의 교감은 학생들의 인성 함양에 효과를 줄 가능성이 높고, 학생들에게 지적 성장의 즐거움과 생명 존중의식 고취, 자존감 상승 등의 많은 긍정적인 효과가 기대된다. 결론적으로 초등학교 교육과정 중 동물을 직접 활용한 동물매개교육 프로그램의 개발 및 적용이 학생들의 인성 함양에 매우 긍정적인 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study uses abandoned dogs as companion animals and discusses how Animal Assisted Education (AAE) affects character cultivation in elementary school students. For this study, a 30-hour program was developed based on the concept of AAE and prior research, and then applied to the school curriculum. The test paper for character cultivation was created based on six items: confidence, self-control, self-respect, integrity, responsibility, and cooperation. The results of the study can be seen as follows. First, the AAE program is an example of the curriculum integration and reorganization centered on the curriculum achievement standards of the 2015 revised curriculum, as well as a study targeting students during the school curriculum. In addition, it is meaningful that it is the first development and application of a 30-hour program of subject education and creative experience activities through animals in the classroom. Second, it was found that the AAE program had a positive effect on all six personality virtues. In particular, significant effects were recognized in confidence, integrity and cooperation (P<.05). Communicating with living organisms through AAE programs is highly likely to have an impact on students personality development. In addition, positive effects such as the pleasure of intellectual growth, raising awareness of respect for life, and increasing self-esteem are expected for students. In conclusion, it was found that the development and application of an AAE program using animals directly during the elementary school curriculum has a very positive effect on cultivating the personality of students.
