知訥과 朱熹의 倫理思想에 대한 比較分析

국문 초록

한국 윤리사상의 근간에는 儒·佛의 사상이 복합적으로 조화를 이루고 있다. 이러한 한국 철학의 중심에는 단연 지눌(知訥, 1158-1210)과 주희(朱熹, 1130-1200)의 사상이 至大的이다. 그들의 사상은 한국 철학의 전반에 영향을 주었으며, 윤리학 또한 그중 하나이다. 이들의 윤리학적 논리는 ‘인간을 어떻게 해석할 것인가’에서 출발한다. 이러한 물음의 해답은 心性論에서 그 해답을 찾을 수 있으며, 이러한 심성론의 해석 위에서 윤리학의 이론과 방법론이 구축되는 것이다. 이에 본 논문은 한국의 윤리학적 근거를 추적하기 위해 두 인물의 윤리학을 심성론을 중심으로 비교분석 하였다. 그 결과는 크게 네 가지로 분류되었다. 첫째, 두 이론 모두 인간은 선험적으로 윤리적 기준을 내재하고 있다는 것이다. 하지만 지눌은 眞心이 곧 空心임을 깨달아 이에 혼연히 드러나는 空寂靈知로 말미암는 윤리적 판단을, 주희는 마음[心]의 主宰로 말미암는 性=理가 윤리적 판단의 기준이 된다고 보았다. 둘째, 두 인물 모두 순수한 인간 그 자체로는 윤리적 행위가 불가하다고 보았다. 지눌은 진정한 윤리적 행위를 하기 위해서는 解悟를 전제로 하였고, 주희는 정당한 공부의 과정 없이 곧장 도덕적 自覺 또는 도덕적 知覺에 이르려는 것은 불가하다 말하고 이에 居敬涵養의 공부가 전제되어야 한다고 보았다. 셋째, 지눌의 윤리적 행위의 논리는 자신과 타인 그리고 만물과의 경계를 허무는 것에서 온다. 이에 지눌의 윤리적 행위는 타인을 위한 것이 아니라 본질로 들어간다면 곧 자신을 돕는 것이며[自利利他], 만물을 모두 소중히 여기는 것 또한 같은 논리이다. 하지만 주희는 이러한 物我爲一의 개념에 의한 윤리적 행동을 비판한다. 주희는 만물과 내가 하나인 경지에 이르게 되면 仁을 구하고자 하는 이는 공부를 어디로부터 시작해야 할지 모르게 되며, 仁은 自心의 이치인데 남과 나의 구분이 없게 되면 누가 주체가 되어 누구를 사랑하는 것인지 알 수 없다고 하였다. 넷째, 지눌의 윤리적 판단은 공적영지에 의한 판단으로 이러한 판단은 무위적인 것으로 이성적 판단이 아닌 직관적 판단에 해당한다. 반면 주희의 윤리적 판단은 心에 의한 자율적 행위로, 심의 주재에 의한 이성주의적 판단에 해당한다.

영문 초록

Confucianism and Buddhism are in a complex harmony at the basis of Korean ethical thoughts. At the center of this Korean philosophy, the ideas of Ji-Nul(知訥, 1158-1210) and Zhu-Xi(朱熹, 1130-1200) occupy a large part. Their thoughts influenced the whole of Korean philosophy, and ethics was one of them. Their ethics start from how to interpret humans? . The answer to these questions can be found in Xin-Xing-Lun[心性論]. The theory and methodology of ethics are constructed on the basis of this interpretation of Xin-Xing-Lun[心性論]. This thesis compared and analyzed the ethics of the two characters, focusing on Xin-Xing-Lun[心性論] to trace the ethical basis of Korea. The results were largely classified into four categories. First, both theories say that humans have inherent ethical standards. Ji-Nul[知訥] refers to an ethical judgment based on Kong-Ji-Ling-Zhi[空寂靈知] that is revealed by realizing the original emptiness of Zhen-Xin[眞心]. However, Zhu-xi[朱熹] regarded the Li[理] of Xing[性] presiding with Xin[心] as the standard for ethical judgment. Second, both figures considered that pure humans themselves were not capable of ethical behavior. Ji-Nul[知訥] presupposes Jie-Wu[解悟] in order to conduct a genuine ethical act. And Zhu-xi[朱熹] said that it is impossible to achieve moral awareness directly without a proper course of study, and he saw that the study of Ju-Jing-Hamg-Yang[居敬涵養] should be premised. Third, the logic of the ethical behavior of Ji-nul[知訥] comes from breaking the boundaries between oneself, others, and all things. Therefore, Ji-Nul[知訥] ethical behavior is for himself, not for others. It is also the same logic to value all things. However, Zhu-Xi[朱熹] criticizes the ethical behavior of the concept of Wu-Wo-Wei-Yi[物我爲一]. Zhu-xi[朱熹] said that when all things and I reach the level of being one, those who want to save Ren[仁] do not know where to start their studies. ‘Ren[仁] is the reason of one’s own heart, but if there is no distinction between me and others, it is said that it is impossible to know who is the subject and loves whom. Fourth, Jinul s ethical judgment is a judgment based on Kong-Ji-Ling-Zhi[空寂靈知], which is a judgment of Wu-Wei[無爲]. Therefore, it is an intuitive judgment, not a rational judgment. On the other hand, the ethical judgment of ‘chuu’ is an autonomous ethical act by the mind, which corresponds to a rational judgment.
