국문 초록

본 연구는 청소년 자녀의 스마트폰 사용시간과 스마트폰 사용시간에 대한 부모 관여의 관계를 확인하고, 이러한 관계가 부모의 스마트폰 사용시간과 청소년의 학년에 따라 다르게 나타나는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 2016년에 조사된 서울교육복지건강패널 3차년도 자료(초6, 중3)를 활용하였으며, 어머니와 자녀가 모두 응답한 총 630쌍의 자료를 분석하였다. 청소년 자녀의 성별과 어머니 근로여부를 통제변수로 투입하였으며, 분석을 위해 Hayes(2013)의 SPS ‘PROCES’ Macro을 활용하였다. 분석결과 자녀의 스마트폰 사용시간에 대한 부모의 관여와 자녀의 스마트폰 사용시간의 관계에서 부모의 스마트폰 사용시간의 조절효과가 발견되었고, 이러한 효과는 학년에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 구체적으로, 청소년 초기(초6)는 부모의 스마트폰 사용시간과 상관없이 부모의 시간제한 정도가 높을수록 자녀의 스마트폰 사용시간이 낮았지만, 청소년 중기(중3)는 부모의 스마트폰 사용시간이 적은 경우에만 부모의 관여와 자녀의 스마트폰 사용시간의 연관성이 더욱 크게 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 부모가 청소년기 자녀의 스마트폰 사용시간에 영향을 미치는 주요 주체라는 것과 함께 부모의 양육과 실제 행동이 일치할 때 청소년의 삶에 더 큰 영향을 미칠 수 있다는 것을 밝혔다는 것에 그 의의가 있다. 따라서 부모와 청소년이 함께 스마트폰 사용에 대한 규칙을 설정하는 것과 부모가 자녀에게 일상생활에서 본이 된다는 것, 즉 모델링이 중요하게 강조되어야 할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to examine the relationship between adolescents’ smartphone use time and parents restrictive mediation in smartphone use time and how this relationship differs according to parents smartphone usage time and adolescents’ grade. Wave 3(2016) data collected in 2016 from the Seoul Panel Study of Education, Health and Welfare(SPSEHW) was used. The data collected from 630 matched pairs of mother and their children was analyzed, using the SPSS “PROCESS” Macro of Hayes (2013). The gender of adolescent and mother s working status were controlled in all analyses. Parent s smartphone use time moderated the relationship between parents involvement of smartphone usage time and the smartphone usage time of adolescents. This effect further varied by grade. For early adolescents (elementary 6), the greater the parents’ time limit, the lesser the adolescents’ smartphone usage time regardless of the parents’ smartphone use time. However, for middle adolescents (middle 3), the relationship between parental limit and adolescent smartphone use time was more pronounced only when parents spent less time on smartphones. The results of this study revealed that parents are the main actors who influence the smartphone usage time of adolescents. Findings suggest that parents have greater impact on the lives of adolescents when parenting is consistent with parents’ actual behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to emphasize that parents and adolescents set rules for smartphone use together, and the importance of modeling in everyday life by parents for their adolescent children.
