출산 전후 부부의 가사노동 변화

국문 초록

이 연구는 자녀 출산 전후 부부의 가사노동 수행의 변화를 파악함으로써 출산과 가정 내 부부 역할, 젠더 수행의 관계를 살펴본다. 자녀 출산은 개인뿐만 아니라 부부의 삶에 큰 변화를 주고 있음은 자명하나, 출산 전과 후의 가사노동 변화에 대하여 실증적으로 파악한 국내 연구는 아직 미비한 실정이다. 이에 이 연구에서는 여성가족패널조사 1~7차 자료를 활용하여 부부를 대상으로 출산 전과 후의 가사노동(돌봄노동 제외) 수행 정도의 변화를 파악하고, 감소, 유지, 증가 비율을 살펴보았다. 주요 결과로는 아내와 남편 모두 자녀 출산 전보다 후에 가사노동 수행 정도가 증가하였음을 확인할 수 있었다. 그러나 가사노동 종류에 따라 아내와 남편의 수행 정도 및 변화에 차이가 나타났다. ‘식사 및 요리준비’, ‘설거지’와 같은 여성적 가사노동은 출산 후에 아내의 몫으로 뚜렷하게 확고해지는 것으로 확인되었다. 반면 남편의 가사노동 빈도는 증가와 감소 비율이 비슷하게 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 자녀 출산으로 인해 변화하는 부부간 역할 수행의 관계를 가사노동 행위를 통하여 설명해보고자 하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine changes in division of household labor between married women and men across transition to parenthood. While childbirth makes a huge difference in life for couples, empirical research is insufficient in Korea. Using data from the 1st to 7th survey of the Korean Longitudinal of Women and Families, this study compares the degree to housework performed before and after childbirth. Both the wife and the husband increase performance of housework after the birth of their children. But according to the type of housework, there are differences in the performance and change of the wife and husband. In the case of feminine domestic work, the frequency of the wife s performance increased even more. At the same time, in the case of men, the frequency of female housework performance decreased. Based on these results, this study attempted to explain the relationship between couples role performance that changes due to childbirth through housework.
