국문 초록

질병은 몸의 감각을 바꾼다. 병든 몸은 이전과 다르게 감각하고 사유한다. 질병은 곧 신체, 사물, 자연, 시간, 공간 등을 인식하는 새로운 조건이 된다. 이 글에서는 한센인의 자전적 기록을 한센병의 감각으로 쓴 몸의 증언으로 읽고, 느낌과 생각을 어떻게 말하고 쓰고 있는가를 살펴보려 한다. 한센인의 자전적 기록은 체험과 기억, 자전과 허구가 중첩된 증언이면서 이야기이다. 거기에는 한센인만이 아니라 일반인의 기억과 인식이 함께 얽혀 있다. 한센인의 자전적 기록은 역사적 증언이기 이전에 한센인의 실존적 성찰과 존재론적 물음이 담긴 고백록이기도 하다. 증언의 사실성과 역사성을 중시하는 시각에서 보면 한센인의 감각, 감정, 이미지들은 지극히 개인적인 것이며 사소한 것들로 여겨질 수 있다. 하지만 한센병의 감각으로 사고하고 표현된 것들은 증언의 여백을 보충한다. 한센인은 질병, 신체, 사물, 장소를 어떻게 느끼고 생각하는가. 한센병의 감각은 몸과 세계를 어떻게 이미지화하고 상상하고 표상하는가. 이러한 물음을 통해서 한센인의 자기정체성을 비롯해 한센병에 걸린 이후에 가족, 고향, 사랑에 관한 감정적 단절과 변화, 고독과 시름 등 감각의 다른 사용을 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

Disease changes the body s senses. The diseased body senses and reason differently than before. Disease becomes a new condition to recognize the body, things, nature, time, space, etc. In this article, we read the autobiographical records of the Hansen people as testimony of the body written with the sense of Hansen s disease, and look at how they speak and write their feelings and thoughts. Hansen s autobiographical record is a testimony that overlaps experiences, memories, autobiographies and fiction. It is intertwined with the memories and perceptions of the general public as well as Hansen. Hansen s autobiographical record is also a confession of Hansen s existential reflection and questions before it is a historical testimony. From a perspective that values the realism and historicality of testimony, Hansen s senses, emotions and images are extremely personal and can be considered trivial. However, the thought and expressed things with the sense of Hansen s disease supplement the margin of the testimonies. Hansen, how do you feel and think about diseases, bodies, things and places? How does the sense of Hansen s disease image, imagine, and represent the body and the world? Through these questions, we could read and reveal the self-identity of the Hansen people, as well as other uses of the senses, such as emotional disconnection and changes in family, hometown, and love after suffering from Hansen s disease, solitude and anxiety.
