바울 서신의 고트어 역본의 본문 유형에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 바울 서신의 고트어 역본의 본문 유형을 살펴본다. 전통적으로 바울 서신의 고트어 역본은 원문 복원학에 있어서 비잔틴계 본문 유형에 속한 것으로 알려졌다. 따라서 이 역본은 신약성경 원문 복원을 위한 자료로는 인용되지 않았다. 그러나 바울 서신 고트어 역본은 아직 비잔틴계 본문 유형이 완전히 성립되지 않은 시기에 번역되었고, 사실상 그 번역 상태를 볼 때 단순하게 비잔틴 본문 유형의 한 증거로 취급될 수 없음이 드러나게 되었다. 특별히, 비-비잔틴계 본문 유형, 즉, 알렉산드리아계 본문 유형 및 서방계 혹은 라틴어 역본과의 일치는 고트어 바울 서신의 저본에 대한 관심을 일으키며, 동시에 고트어 역본의 증거가 본문 유형의 분화 단계를 드러내주는 기능을 하는 것을 볼 수도 있다. 더 나아가, 고트어 역본만이 담고 있는 고유한 읽기는 (독특한 저본의 추론도 일으키지만 희박하며) 울필라가 성경을 번역할 때 단순한 지나친 문자역(즉, 고트어로된 헬라어)이 아닌 고트어의 특성을 고려한 번역을 시도했음을 보여준다. 요약하자면, 바울서신의 고트어 역본은, 비록 초기 비잔틴 본문 유형을 담고 있더라도, 그것은 다른 유형에 속한다고 여겨지는 필사본들이 갖는 일반적인 현상에 거의 준하기에 이 역본은 여러 헬라어 증거들이 경쟁할 때 보충적 자료의 가치를 충분히 가지고 있다고 말할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This article examines the text-type of the Gothic version of Paul’s letters. Traditionally, the Gothic version of Paul’s letters was known to belong to the Byzantine text-type in the textual criticism. Therefore, this version was not cited as a source for restoring the original text of the New Testament. However, the Gothic version of the Paul’s letters was translated at a time when the Byzantine text-type was not yet fully established, and, in fact, the status of its translation revealed that it could not be simply treated as a proof of the Byzantine text-type. Particularly, the correspondence of the non-Byzantine text-type, i.e. the Alexandrian text-type and the Western text-type (or Latin version), arouses interest in the text of the Gothic Paul’s letters, while at the same time the evidence of the Gothic version leads to the differentiation of the text-type. Furthermore, the unique readings that only the Gothic version contains (which causes the inference of the original text, but is sparse) prove that this version is not a simple over-literal translation (i.e. Greek Bible in Gothic), but, when Ulfilas translated the Bible, he tried to translate it in consideration of characteristics of the Gothic language. In summary, the Gothic version of Paul’s letters is close to the general phenomena of manuscripts that are considered to belong to other types, although it contains an early Byzantine type of text, so that this version is a supplementary source when several Greek textual evidences compete. It can be said that it has enough its own value in textual criticism.
