Developmental Phonological Error Patterns in a Word-Level Test for Children Aged 2-7 Years Old

국문 초록

배경 및 목적: 본 연구에서는 단어 수준 발화에서 일반 아동의 발달 과정 중 나타나는 발달적 오류패턴의 연령 별 발생률을 비교하고, 각 오류패턴에 대해 정상발달로 간주할 수 있는 연령대를 규정하고자 하였다. 방법: 전국 지역의 2세 후반부터 7세까지 일반 아동 620명을 대상으로 UTAP2의 단어 수준 검사를 실시하였다. 대상자들의 반응에 대해 음운 오류패턴 분석을 실시한 후, 연령 집단 간 평균 오류패턴 발생률을 산출하고 일원분산분석을 이용하여 집단 간 비교를 실시하였다. 모든 연령집단에서 10% 이상의 아동들이 사용한 오류패턴들을 파악하여, 각 오류패턴에 대해 정상발달로 간주할 수 있는 연령 기준을 마련하였다. 결과: 음절구조 변동, 음운대치 변동, 동화 변동, 왜곡 변동 중 음운대치 변동의 발생률이 가장 높았고, 특히 마찰음의 파열음화, 파찰음의 파열음화, 유음생략과 같은 방법 변동이 두드러졌다. 연구개음의 전방화와 경음화는 2세 후반 또는 3세 초반, 어말종성생략과 유음의 활음화는 3세 후반, 어중종성생략, 유음생략, 마찰음의 파열음화, 파찰음의 파열음화와 어중종성역행동화는 4세 후반, 유음의 비음화는 5세 초반, 치경마찰음의 치간음화는 7세까지 정상발달로 간주할 수 있었다. 논의 및 결론: 본 연구는 전국 규모의 대규모 일반 아동 집단을 대상으로 발달적 오류패턴의 분류 체계를 확립하고, 연령에 따른 발생률과 정상발달 오류패턴의 양상을 파악하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives: This paper reports a developmental study on two aspects of phonological error patterns: The incidence rate of error patterns and age-appropriate error patterns by age. Methods: Speech samples of 620 typically developing children, aged between 2;6 and 7;11 years, randomly selected throughout Korea, were collected through the word-level test UTAP2 (Urimal Test of Articulation and Phonology 2). After performing error pattern analysis on the response data, the incidence rates of error patterns among age groups were compared; and by analyzing the error patterns used by at least 10% of the children in the same age group, age-appropriate error patterns error patterns were identified. Results: The incidence rate of phonological substitution patterns was the highest, and in particular, stopping of fricatives and affricates and liquid deletion were the most frequent. The age-appropriate error patterns were identified as follows. Velar fronting and tensing up to late 2 or early 3 years old, word-final code deletion and gliding of liquid up to late 3 years old, deletion of word-medial coda deletion, liquid deletion, stopping of fricatives and affricates, and assimilation of word-medial coda up to late 4 years old, nasalization of liquid up to early 5 years old, and (inter) dentalization up to 7 years old, all of which were age-appropriate. Conclusion: This study is meaningful in that it established a classification system of developmental error patterns, and identified age-appropriate error patterns from a large sample of children by age.
