We investigated the effects of rice variety with high-amylose content, Goami rice (Oryza sativa L. Goami-3), on glucose homeostasis and lipid metabolism in mice. Oral acute administration of Goami rice (HC) for 3 weeks significantly improved glucose, insulin tolerance and lipid profiling. HC reduced fasting glucose concentrations and hepatic lipid accumulation. HC induced GLP-1 and adiponectin concentrations. HC suppressed the hepatic gene expression of Pepck and G6pase. Our results demonstrate that Goami rice may be a potential food supplement for improvement of insulin resistance and hyperlipidemia.
