국문 초록

본고는 아직 국내에서 체계적으로 연구되지 않은 불가리아 영화사를 정리해보려는 시도이다. 동유럽 영화가 세계 영화사에서 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있지만, 불가리아 영화가 해외 평단의 주목을 받기 시작한 것은 비교적 최근의 일이다. 최근 3~4년 동안 불가리아 영화가 권위있는 국제영화제 프로그램에 선정되었으며, 그중 일부 작품은 국내에서 개최되는 국제영화제에서도 소개되었다. 현재 불가리아 영화에 대한 관심은 최근 주요 해외영화제에서 좋은 평가와 더불어 수상한 작품들 덕택이다. 다른 말로 하자면, 이런 현상의 이면에는 사회주의 불가리아 시기부터 축적되어온 불가리아 영화사의 전통이 있다는 것이다. 그러나 불가리아 영화의 이러한 역사적 토대에 대해서는 체계적인 연구나 분석이 부족한 실정이다. 본고에서 저자는 현대 불가리아 영화의 토대가 된 시기, 즉 ‘해빙기’ 후반부에서 1980년대 말까지의 불가리아 영화사를 현실적으로 가능한 한도 내에서 기술해보고자 한다. 영화 역사 기술이라는 본고의 특성상 각 불가리아 영화사에서 시기별 주요 작품에 대한 상세한 분석보다는 간략한 의미와 내용을 중심으로 기술하면서 불가리아 영화사의 전체적인 흐름과 경향을 파악하는데 집중하였음을 먼저 밝혀둘 필요가 있다. 시기별 주요 작품들을 파악하고 관람한 후, 해당 시기의 전체적인 흐름과 경향을 밝히는 것이 영화 역사 기술의 보편적인 방법이기 때문이다. 저자가 본 논문에서 비중을 두고 거론한 작품들에 대한 상세한 영화 미학적 분석은 차후 연구에서 계속될 것임을 역시 밝혀둔다.

영문 초록

This paper is an attempt to summarize history of Bulgarian cinema, which has not yet been systematically studied in Korea. Eastern European cinema occupies an important place in the world s cinema history, but it is relatively recently that Bulgarian cinema has started to gain the attention of foreign critics. In the last 3-4 years, Bulgarian films have been selected for programs at prestigious international film festivals, some of which have been featured at international film festivals held in Korea. At present, interest in Bulgarian films is thanks to the award-winning works as well as good reviews at major international film festivals. In other words, behind this phenomenon is the tradition of Bulgarian cinema history that has been accumulated since the socialist Bulgarian period. However, there is a lack of systematic research or analysis on this historical basis of Bulgarian cinema. In this paper, the author intends to describe the history of Bulgarian cinema from the 1960s to the end of the 1980s. It is necessary to clarify that this paper focused on grasping the overall flow, trend of Bulgarian cinema history rather than detailed analysis of major Bulgarian films. This research is the most basic stage, and the author of this paper will add more detailed analysis of individual works to develop them into more precise research on film history.
