사회적 삶을 토대로 한 듀이의 경험 확장의 원리와 상상력

국문 초록

본 연구는 사회적인 맥락을 토대로 사람들의 삶의 영위와 발전, 성장을 추동하는 근원적 요소로서 듀이 관점의 상상력을 탐구하였다. 이를 위해 2장에서 상상력 탐구를 위한 기본 바탕으로서 사회적 삶을 통해 이루어지는 경험의 본질과 성격을 검토하였다. 듀이의 관점에서 모든 경험은 환경 속, 즉 사회적 삶 속에서 이루어지므로 그 자체의 선(善)과 같은 것은 없으며 오직 상상력에 의해 일어난 사고의 흐름에 따라 드러난 질성이 그 성격을 갈음하게 한다. 3장은 획일화와 일반화의 의미 비교를 통한 경험의 성장 개념을 분석하여 상상력의 기능과 필요성 이해의 기반을 마련하였다. 학교교육을 통해 개인과 사회의 생활양식과 관념의 간극을 좁히는 일이 획일화에 맞추어질 경우 교육활동은 삶과 유리된 기계적 동일화로 전락할 수 있다. 반면, 학교교육에서 학습한 지식 내용을 누구나 자신의 삶에 적용하여 경험을 성장시키는 데 활용되는 것을 일반화라고 하며, 이 과정에서 상상력은 새로운 가능성의 모색을 통해 개인과 사회 집단의 목적 형성과 경험 확장에 기여한다. 4장에서 상상력은 사회적 유능함과 새로운 지식 생산의 근원임을 확인하였다. 끝으로 학교교육현장에서 상상력을 발휘할 수 있도록 물리적･정서적 분위기를 조성하는 노력과 이를 위한 교사의 인식이 중요함을 강조하였다.

영문 초록

This study explores the imagination as a source of expansion of Dewey s experience in order to test the hypothesis that imagination from Dewey s point of view is a fundamental element that drives people s life, development, and growth based on social life. To this end, Chapter 2 examines the nature and nature of experiences through social life as a basis for exploring imagination. From Dewey s point of view, since all experiences take place in the environment, that is, in social life, there is no such thing as good in itself, and the quality revealed only by the flow of thoughts caused by imagination replaces the character. Chapter 3 laid the foundation for understanding the function and necessity of imagination by analyzing the concept of growth of experience through comparison of the meaning of uniformity and generalization. If narrowing the gap between individual and social lifestyles and ideas through school education is aligned with uniformity, educational activities can be degraded into mechanical identification that is advantageous with life. On the other hand, it is called generalization that the knowledge learned in school education is applied to everyone s own life and used to grow experiences, and in this process, imagination seeks new possibilities to form goals and expand experiences of individuals and social groups. In Chapter 4, it was confirmed that imagination is the source of social competence and new knowledge production. Finally, it emphasized the importance of the efforts to create an environment so that the imagination can be displayed in the school education field and the teacher s awareness for this.
