소매유통산업 업종별 효율성 비교 분석

국문 초록

지역경기에 매우 민감한 유통산업이 1996년 개방되면서 수도권 종속형 경제체제는 가속화되고 국내유통시장의 동반성장과 대형소매유통업체의 효율성 극대화의 논리적 대립이 이어져 오고 있다. 본연구는 이런 문제의식을 기반으로 대한민국의 제2도시로서 동남권 경제권의 허브역할을 맡고 있는부산과 수도권에서 대응될 수 있는 인천 두 광역시를 중심으로 유통 산업 27개 업종별 상대적 효율성을 12년에 걸쳐 비교하였다. 분석 결과 2006년 기준으로는 부산이 인천에 비해 대부분의 업종에서효율적인 것으로 추정되었으나, 2018년 부산은 16개 업종에서 인천에 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 두 광역시의 대형소매점은 횡단면 효율성 측정치에 따르면 높은 수준을 보여주지만, 총생산성증가율과 기술변화가 낮은 수준을 보여주었다. 이는 현재 대형유통업체들이 전반적인 성장둔화형태를 보이는 근본적인 배경으로 의무휴일제 등 규제에만 전적으로 돌리기 어렵다는 것을 암시하며, 다른 측면에서 접근할 필요성을 확인시켜 준다.

영문 초록

The distribution industry is very sensitive to regional economic fluctuations. However, with the opening of the distribution market in 1996 and the solidification of the economic system subordinated to the metropolitan area, the distribution industry aroused a logical confrontation between shared growth and maximization of efficiency claimed by large retailers. In this study, with this awareness of the problem, the relative efficiency of the 27 distribution industry sectors in Busan and Incheon was analyzed over a 12-year period. Busan is the second city of Korea and the center of the Southeastern economic zone, and Incheon, located in the metropolitan area, is positioned as the third city. As a result of analyzing these two metropolitan cities, it was estimated that Busan was more efficient in most industries than Incheon. However, in 2018, Busan was confirmed to be low in Incheon in 16 industries. And large retail stores show a high level when examined based on the measure of cross-sectional efficiency. However, the rate of increase in total productivity and technological change of large retail stores showed low levels. This implies that it is difficult to say that the arguments that the recent large retail companies have seen the overall growth slowdown is the regulation such as mandatory holiday system. It indicates that there is a need for a different approach.
