장모의 장서 갈등 경험

국문 초록

본 연구는 장모들의 사위와의 갈등-회복 경험을 살피는 연구이다. 이를 위하여 현재 3년 이상 딸·사위와 동거중이고 사위와의 갈등을 경험해 본 65세 이상 장모 13명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하고 근거이론을 바탕으로 자료를 분석하였다. 그 결과 167개의 개념과 41개의 하위범주, 28개의 상위범주가 나타났고, 장모의 장서갈등-회복경험을 보여주는 이론 모형이 도출되었다. 연구참여자들은 중심현상으로 ‘사위살이: 차라리 남이었다면 나았을 불편한 감정’이 나타났고, 갈등경험과정은 ‘사위와 갈등촉발’, ‘외부노력과 개인적 노력’, ‘수용과 조절’, ‘갈등회복경험’의 4단계로 나타났다. 시간 경과와 생활사건발생 등 장서간 의견대치로 갈등이 발생하면 다시 갈등관계로 돌입하는 순환적 과정이 나타났다. 수용과 체념단계에서 딸의 중재가 있는 경우 재갈등 정도는 줄어들었다. 증가하는 장서갈등을 예방하고 개입할 전문적 연구와 상담교육프로그램 개발이 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to explore the experience of Conflict-Reconciliation between mothers-in-law and sons-in-law in the position of mothers-in-law. For this, the researcher conducted in-depth interviews with 13 mothers-in-law who experienced conflicts and reconciliations with sons-in-law living together over 3 years. Using grounded theory method, 167 themes, 41 subcategories, and 28 categories were derived. The participants experienced “suffering from son-in-law: Uncomfortable feelings wishing rather being a stranger” as a central phenomenon and the model showed 4 stages, including ‘sparking conflicts with son-in-law’, ‘internal efforts and external supports’, ‘acceptance and control’ and ‘conflict resolution.’ The participants could return to the ‘sparking conflicts’ stage again according to passing by time and occurring new life events. In case of being daughters’ arbitrations, re-conflicts were reduced. There needs professional counseling-educational programs to prevent the conflicts and to promote the satisfactory relationships between mothers-in-law and sons-in-law.
