국문 초록

이 글은 애드거 앨런 포의 소설이 번역되어, 한국 근대소설의 정립에 미친 영향을 살펴본 것이다. 포의 문학은 1920년대 중반에 소개되었다. 신문, 저널 등을 통해 평 문과 작품 등이 소개되었으며, 특히 해외문학 연구자들에게 주목을 받았다. 초기에는 공포소설이 번역되었으며, 일련의 작품들은 1920년대 한국 문단의 분위기에 상응하 는 작품들이다. 포 소설의 번역은 두 가지 면에서 근대 단편소설의 확립에 기여했다. 첫째, 문학 양식의 효과설은 단편소설의 구성과 완결성에 기여했다. 예컨대 탐정소설 의 경우, 양식의 효과설을 구성에 활용하여 개척한 장르로 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 1920년 대 포의 단편은 세 작품이 번역된다. 세 작품 모두 공포물로서 인간에 내재한 공포의 감정을 소설로 구현한 것이다. ‘죽음’이라는 소재는 공포를 드러내기 위한 장치로서 공포를 자아냈다. 포는 단편소설의 창시자이면서 동시에 탐정소설의 개척자이다. 그가 구현한 공포 (데카당) 소설은 신이 부재한 시대 인간의 내면에 존재하는 감정에 대한 탐구이면서 동 시에 진실에 대한 탐구이다. 외국문학은 한국 문단 지식인들의 정신적 고뇌와 조우하 면서 반향을 일으킨다. 포의 문학은 이 땅의 문인들이 세계사적 추이를 독해하면서 문학이 지닌 미적 자질이 무엇인지 탐구하게 했으며, 단편소설의 형식적 완결성을 모 색할 수 있는 계기를 제공했다. 문인들은 외국문학 수용과정에서 한국 근현대 문학의 특징을 객관화 하고, 시공간을 초월한 문학의 보편성을 찾기 위한 도정을 지속했다.

영문 초록

The article examines the impact of Adger Allen Poe’s novels on the establishment of modern Korean novels. Po’s literature was introduced through newspapers, journals, etc. in the mid 1920s, and was especially noted by researchers of overseas literature. In the early days, horror stories were translated, and they corresponded to the atmosphere of Korean literary circles in the 1920s. The translation of Po novels contributed to the establishment of modern short stories in two respects. First, the theory of the effect of the literary style advocated by Poe contributed to the completeness of the plot of short stories. For example, in the case of detective stories, the theory of the effects of the form can be viewed as a pioneering Second, three pieces of Po’s short story in the 1920s are translated. All three are horror stories that embody the feelings of fear in humans. As a device to show fear, the subject of “death” has created an atmosphere of fear. Poe is the creator of short stories and also the pioneer of detective stories. His novel “Decadang” is not only an exploration of the emotions that exist inside a human being in a time when God is absent, but also an exploration of the truth. Foreign literature resonates with the mental anguish of Korean literary intellectuals. Po s literature led the writers of this land to explore what aesthetic qualities literature has in reading world historical trends, and provided an opportunity to seek the formal completeness of short stories. In the process of accepting foreign literature, writers have continued to objectify the characteristics of modern and contemporary Korean literature and to find the universality of Abstract literature that transcends time and space.
