디지털 시대 주체 회복을 위한 대학 글쓰기 교육의 필요성

국문 초록

이 논문에서는 글로벌 경쟁과 대학 인문학의 위기 속에서 대학 글쓰기 교육의 대응 방안에 관한 논의를 담고 있다. 이런 논의를 위해 이 논문은 교양교육 속에서 대학 글쓰기 교육이 차지하고 있는 특수한 위치, 즉 인문학 교양과목이면서도 의사소통교육(혹은 언어 교육)에 속하는 대학 글쓰기 교육의 성격을 탐색한다. 대학의 교양교육은 자유교육과 일반교육의 정신 아래 인간을 전인적 존재, 총체적 인간으로 성장시키고자 하는 목적을 가지고 있다. 대학 글쓰기 교육은 교양교육에서 강조하는 전인적 인간 양성 및 내면적 성숙과 밀접한 관련을 가지고 있다. 글을 쓰는 행위는 우리로 하여금 자기반성과 내면적 성장을 통해 사회적 주체로 성장시켜 주기 때문이다. 이런 특성과 함께 대학 글쓰기 교육은 글을 쓰는 능력을 함양하는 의사소통교육(언어교육)적 요소도 가지고 있다. 글쓰기 교육은 기호로 된 언어를 조작하고 조직하여 사용하며 궁극적으로 자기표현의 문제를 다루고 있기 때문이다. 대학 글쓰기 교육은 한 편으로 인문적 교양을, 다른 한 편으로 언어 표현을 다루기 때문에 교양교육 속에서도 특별한 성격을 가지게 된다. 글쓰기는 개인이 자기 삶의 지평에서 세계에 관한 자기 생각을 형성해 가는 과정이며, 나아가 인류가 보존한 높은 문화적 산물과 정신적 가치를 만나는 과정이 되기도 한다. 그렇기 때문에 글을 읽고 쓰는 것은 하나의 개인을 교양적 인간, 세계적 인간으로 성장시키는 인문학적 의미를 담고 있는 것이다. 또 이와 함께 대학 글쓰기 교육은 언어 표현이 가지고 있는 창조적인 성격을 함께 담지하고 있다. 좋은 생각은 좋은 표현을 통해 나타나는 경우가 많다. 또 좋은 표현이 좋은 생각을 만들어 내기도 한다. 글쓰기 교육에서는 좋은 생각과 사상을 창조하기 위해 쓰기 능력이 필요하다는 사실을 강조한다. 여러 연구결과를 보더라도 언어능력이 좋은 필자들이 좋은 생각과 사상을 창조했기 때문이다. 마지막으로 이 논문에서는 디지털 매체를 통한 하이퍼텍스트 시대의 도래에 직면하여 대학 글쓰기 교육이 대응해야 할 몇 가지 과제를 제시하고 있다. 첫째 대학 글쓰기 교육은 디지털 시대의 분산되고 해체되는 주체에 대응하여 쓰기 주체의 문제를 다시 정립해야 한다. 둘째, 디지털 시대에서 지식의 연성화, 지식의 경량화에 대응하여 대학 글쓰기 교육은 인문학적 자기 성찰을 중시해야 한다. 셋째, 대학 글쓰기 교육은 하이퍼텍스트의 도전과 융·복합적 교육과정 개발에 대응하여 다양한 디지털 글쓰기 교육 프로그램을 개발해야 한다.

영문 초록

This article deals with the characteristics of college writing under the global competition and the crisis of the humanities. Under both liberal and general education, college’s liberal education aims to improve humans to holistic existence. In this article, the emphasis is on college writing education’s relevancy to inner maturity or holistic human cultivation, which the liberal education accentuates. This is because the act of writing makes it possible for us to grow into social subject through self-reflection and inner maturity. With this discussion, this article also emphasizes that writing education should belong to communication education, because writing education deals with the problem of self-expression using language that is structured with various characters. In this regard, college writing education is situated at a significant position in liberal education, because it deals with humanistic building on one hand, and language expression on the other hand. Unlike other language education, college witing seeks for the improvement of humanistic thinking through expression instruction. In addition, this article also suggests few tasks that college writing should respond with as it encounters the advent of hypertext era through digital media. Firstly, college writing needs to reestablish the problem of writing subjects in response to the digital age’s dispersing and breaking up disintegrate subjects. Secondly, a program that allows humanistic self-examination in response to softness of knowledge and weight lightening of knowledge in the digital age needs to be developed. Lastly, college writing needs to develop various digital writing education programs in response to hypertext’s rising and convergence curriculum development.
