원신흥동유적 출토 반월형석도의 사용흔 분석

국문 초록

본고에서는 대전 원신흥동유적에서 출토된 미사리유형의 석도 12점을 대상으로 육안 및 현미경 관찰을 통해 사용흔을 분석하고 그 사용 방식을 복원하였다. 분석 대상 석도는 크게 무공과 2공으로 구분되는데, 무공이 4점, 2공이 8점이다. 이 중 2공 석도는 다시 평면형태에 따라 장방형 4점, 어형 2점, 즐형 1점, 주형 1점으로 세분된다. 고배율 현미경을 이용한 분석 결과 총 7점에서 사용흔이 관찰되었는데, 6점의 2공 석도에서는 기존에 복원된 사용 방식을 다시 한번 입증하는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 구체적인 사용법으로는 오른손 중지에 끈을 연결하여 석도를 잡은 다음, 엄지로 벼과식물을 석도에 밀착시키고 검지로 누르면서 손목을 비틀어 이삭을 따는 방식이 상정되었다. 이와 달리 무공 석도 1점에서는 전혀 다른 형태의 광택이 관찰되었는데, 식물은 아니지만 부드러운 상태의 작업 대상물을 추정할 수 있었다. 아직까지 구체적인 사용 방식을 상정하기는 어렵지만, 수확 이외의 용도로 사용되었음을 실증적으로 확인하였다는 점에서 의미가 있다. 앞으로 유사 석도 형식에 대한 사용흔 분석을 지속적으로 실시하여 사용 방식에 대한 가설을 설정하고, 복제 석기를 이용한 사용 실험을 통해 이를 검증하는 작업이 이루어질 필요가 있다. 이 밖에 분석 대상 석도의 관찰 결과를 바탕으로 제작, 사용, 폐기와 관련된 일련의 행위들을 어느 정도 복원할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This paper reconstructed the usage of twelve stone harvesting knives belonging to the Misari cultural assemblage excavated from the Wonsinheungdong site in Daejeon city. These are divided into two categories, that are, with no-holes(n=4) and two-holes(8). The latter is further divided into four categories of shape, square(4), fish(2), comb(1) and boat(1), respectively. High-magnification microscopic analysis revealed that seven samples kept its usewear, of which six two-holes knives showed the same patterns as observed in the previous studies. In particular, the holes were used to fasten strings through which the mid-finger was inserted, and then by gripping the blade of the knife with the thumb holding the straw to the blade and then cutting it. On the other hand, a different trace pattern than the above was observed on the one no-hole type knife. The object is likely to be soft tissue, not plants. Although it is still difficult to identify the object itself, this finding is meaningful because a different usage than harvesting was pointed out. More similar artefacts should be observed to establish a hypothesis for its usage, as well as experimental studies using replica stone knives should be required. Other than these results, through the observation it was possible to reconstruct the sequence of production, use and disposal at some extent.
