한국 가계의 소비양식 변화 연구: 1965~2016

국문 초록

가계의 소비양식은 고정적인 것이 아니며 가계를 둘러싼 거시환경의 변화에 따라 변화한다. 소비양식이 가계의 생활양식을 엿볼 수 있는 한 방식이라면 우리는 환경의 변화 속에서 가계가 변화해 온 모습과 앞으로의 변화 양상을 소비양식의 변화를 통해 이해하고 짐작해 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 지난 50년간 가계의 소비양식변화 양상을 알아보기 위하여 각 비목에 대한 시대별 소비지출비중과 시대별 소득 및 가격탄력성을 산출, 비교하였으며 이를 위해서 통계청 국가통계포털에서 제공하고 있는 가계동향조사 1965-2016년 거시자료를 이용하였다. 소비지출규모는 총소비지출액과 11개 각 비목의 소비지출액의 변화를 명목기준과 실질기준으로 산출하여 시간에 따른 변화를 보았다. 분석결과 첫째, 명목상 소비지출액은 1965년 8,330원에서 2016년 307만원으로 약 370배 증가하였으며 실질기준으로도 약 10배 증가하였다. 다만 소비증가세는 2000년대 들어서면서 점차 둔화되는 모습을 보였다. 둘째, 지난 50년 동안 우리나라 가계의 소득이 증가하고 소비규모가 커지면서 의식주 등 필수적이고 변동이 크지 않은 비목의 비중은 상대적으로 감소해 온 반면, 의식주 이외의 비목에 대한 소비비중은 지속적으로 증가해 왔다. 또한 새로운 기술의 등장 시기나 정책시행시기, 인구구조의 변화 시점 등에 따라 소비비중에 큰 변화가 생기는 시점도 비목에 따라 다른 결과를 보였다. 셋째, 식료품비, 주거비, 교육비, 기타지출은 소득탄력성이 1보다 작아 소득변화에 대해 비탄력적인 것으로 나타난 반면 이를 제외한 외식비, 의복비, 가사용품비, 의료비, 오락문화비, 교통비, 통신비 등은 소득탄력성이 1보다 높았던 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 통계자료가 허용하는 범위 내에서 최대한 해방 이후 모든 시기(1965년~2016년)를 연구에 포함하고 이를 통해 우리나라 가계의 소비양식이 현대로 정의되는 이 시대에서 어떠한 형태로 변화하여 왔는지를 하나의 연구틀 안에서 고찰하여 우리나라 가계의 소비양식 변화를 이해하고, 더 나아가 향후 가계소비 연구의 실증적 기초를 제공하고자 하였다. 본 연구가 현대를 살아온 한국 가계의 모습을 이해하는데, 그리고 향후 가계의 소비를 연구하는데 있어서 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

Consumption patterns of households are not fixed and change with changes in the environments surrounding households. When consumption style is a way of representing the lifestyle of households, we can understand and infer how households have changed and how they will change in the context of environment. In this study, the consumption expenditure ratio of each item and the income and price elasticity of each period were calculated and compared in order to identify the changes in the consumption patterns of households over the past 50 years. For this purpose, macro data of the Household Income and Expenditure Survey 1965-2016 was used. According to the analysis, the nominal consumption expenditure increased by 370 times from 8,330 won in 1965 to 3.07 million won in 2016, and increased by 10 times on a real basis. However, the consumption growth rate gradually slowed down in the 2000s. Second, over the past 50 years, the proportion of essential and non-variable items, such as food, clothing and shelter, has decreased relatively as household income has increased and consumption has increased, while the proportion of consumption for others has increased. The change in the consumption rate varied for each item depending on the emergence of new technologies, policy enforcement, or changes in the demographic structure. Third, the income elasticity of food, housing, education, and other expenditures was lower than 1, while that of FAFH, clothing, household goods, medical expenses, entertainment and culture expenses, transportation expenses, and communication expenses was higher than 1. This study examined how the consumption patterns of Korean households have changed in modern society by including all available periods (1965-2016) in the study. Through this, we wanted to understand the changes in consumption patterns of Korean households and further provide an empirical basis for future household consumption research.
