국문 초록

본 논문은 요한계시록에 7번 사용되고 있는 ‘전능하신 주 하나님’ 호칭의 구약 배경을 연구한다. 구약에 하나님 호칭은 수없이 많이 사용되지만, 계시록에 사용된 ‘전능하신 주 하나님’ 호칭은 특정하게 아모스서(LXX)에 사용되는 ‘전능하신 주 하나님 호칭’을 배경으로 하고 있다. 그 이유는 아모스서(LXX)와 계시록 사이에 문자적 유사성이 명백하고, 빈도수로 보더라도 이 호칭이 다른 구약본문에는 1-2회 정도 사용되지만, 아모스서에서는 10회나 사용되고 있기 때문이다. 아모스서(LXX)에서 이 호칭이 사용될 때는 하나님의 창조주, 심판주, 모든 만물의 통치자 되심, 그리고 우상에 대한 공격이라는 주제와 함께 사용된다. 흥미롭게도 계시록에서도 비슷한 문맥에서 이 호칭이 사용되는데, ‘셀 수 없는 많은 무리,’ ‘만국’이라는 단어가 함께 사용되거나, ‘통치’의 개념 혹은 ‘심판’의 개념이 함께 사용되고 있다. 이런 현상은 계시록에 사용된 전능하신 주 하나님 호칭이 아모스서의 문맥과 주제를 그대로 계시록 본문으로 끌고 들어와 아모스서의 신학과 교훈을 연상시키는 역할을 한다고 볼 수 있게 만든다. 계시록은 아모스서의 하나님 호칭을 사용하여, 아모스서의 주제인 우상이 아니라 하나님만이 진정한 예배의 대상임을 상기시키면서, 로마황제라는 우상이 우리의 예배대상이 아니라, 보좌에 앉으신 하나님만이 유일한 참 예배의 대상임을 정교하게 드러낸다. 로마황제가 ‘전능하신 주 하나님’이 아니라, 보좌에 앉으신 분이 ‘전능하신 주 하나님’이시다. 그분이 세상을 창조하셨고, 심판하시며 하나님의 백성뿐만 아니라 모든 사람의 통치자이시기 때문이다. 계시록은 아모스서(LXX)의 하나님 호칭을 사용하면서 아모스서의 전체 문맥을 끌어다가 이 주제들을 연상시키며 신학적 권면을 표현하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study looks into the Old Testament background of the title ‘the Lord God Almighty’ that occurs 7 times in the Book of Revelation. Although the divine titles are used in many different forms in the OT, the title, ‘the Lord God Almighty’ in Revelation is closely based on the same divine title in the Book of Amos(LXX) in particular. This is because there is verbal similarity between God’s title in Amos(LXX) and that in Revelation and furthermore the title is employed 10 times in Amos(LXX) whereas it is used only once or twice in other OT books. When the divine title ‘the Lord God Almighty’ is used in the Book of Amos(LXX), it occurs with other themes such as God as creator, judge, ruler of all things and critique of idol worship. Significantly, the title is employed in similar context in John’s Revelation. It occurs with such phrases as ‘a great multitude,’ ‘nations’ and also with such themes as ‘God’s kingship’ and ‘judgment’. All these indicate that the use of the divine title from the Book of Amos in Revelation takes into and even evoke the broad context and themes in the Book of Amos to express exhortations in the Book of Revelation. The Book of Revelation warns about Roman imperial cults as idolatry and encourages believers in Asia Minor to worship only God, by using the divine title from Amos(LXX). The use of the divine title ‘the Lord God Almighty’ from Amos shows that not Roman emperor but the one who sits on the throne is the only one who deserves worship as ‘the Lord God Almighty.’ This is mainly because God is creator, judge and true ruler of all nations, just as he is in the Book of Amos. The Book of Revelation makes such a warning and exhortations by using the divine title ‘the Lord God Almighty’ and thus evoking the broad context and themes of the book of Amos(LXX).
