김원행 『중용강설』의 실천 지향적 경전 해석의 특징

국문 초록

본 연구는 인물성동이론 논변의 한 축으로서 낙론계의 『중용』에 대한 주석이 지니는 이론적 특징을 김원행의 『중용강설(中庸講說)』을 중심으로 살펴보되, 이것을 문화다원론적 관점을 기준으로 고찰하고자 하였다. 김원행의 학설을 문화다원론적 관점에서 해석하는 것은 결과적으로 낙론(洛論)의 이기론을 계승하여 사람과 만물을 수평적 관점에서 해석함으로써 근대적 자연과학적 인식을 강조하는 홍대용의 철학적 특성을 잘 설명해 줄 수 있다. 김원행은 이기심성론에서 심(心)을 주로 기(氣)의 측면에서 보았다. 리와 기는 분리된 것이 아니라 현상의 작용 속에 내재되어 있는 것으로 보아 불상리(不相離)를 강조하면서, 특수한 현상에도 모두 리가 전제되어 있다고 주장하였다. 그는 미발(未發) 개념을 공부가 이루어진 극진한 효과로 파악하면서, 미발과 이발(已發) 사이를 공부의 과정과 결과를 일관하는 연속적 계기라고 보았다. 현실세계에서 성(性)을 실현하고자 하는 심의 능동적인 역할에 유의하여, 다양하고 특수한 경험적 실천 과정이 포함된 측면을 강조하여 심의 미발과 이발을 해명한다는 점에서 그의 미발이발론은 문화다원론적 지향을 가진다. 김원행이 말하는 성(性)의 덕(德) 또한 이발의 구체적 상황에서 자신과 남을 함께 완성시켜 주는 근거가 되는 것으로 시조지의(時措之宜) 또는 시중(時中)을 실천하는 계기로서, 보편적 본성의 미발 상태가 아니라, 구체적 상황의 다양성과 다원성을 포용하고자 하는 취지를 갖는다. 또한 그는 명덕을 허령불매한 마음의 지각능력으로 봄으로써 마음이 능동적 자율성으로 성과 정을 통섭하면서도 보편성을 가지는 성을 다양한 경험적인 정(情)으로 실현시키는 주체가 된다고 인식하였다. 따라서 김원행의 명덕설은 내용상 문화다원론적 지평을 열어 줄 수 있는 이론적 함축을 그 속에 내포하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on Kim Wonhaeng s Lecture of the Mean(中庸講說), which concentrates on the theoretical features of the commentary on the Mean of Nakron Learning School as an axis of the Debate of Inmulseong-dongiron(人物性同異論) and tried to it according to culturally pluralistic viewpoint. In the theory of principle and material forces, Kim Wonhaeng continued Kim Changhyup s theory and held on eclectic position between priority of principle and one of material forces. The purpose of interpreting Kim Won-haeng s theory from a cultural pluralistic point of view is as follows. That is to say, the theory of principle and material-forces of Nakron(洛論) is that it has efficiency in explaining the theoretical characteristics of modern natural scientific consciousness by interpreting all things including people and animals from a horizontal point of view, such as Hong Dae-yong. In this article, writer will pay attention to how his characteristics of the theory of principle and material forces are reflected in the interpretation of The Mean(中庸). Through these discussions, as the commentary on the Mean of Nakron Learning School implies a relativistic view of humans and all things from an equal perspective, these theories will be evaluated from a cultural pluralistic vision. He didn t refer to the mind principle(理) and not as material forces, but regarded it as having a meaning encompassing principle and material forces. But in the theory of principle and material-forces, Kim Wonhaeng mainly viewed the mind from the side of the spirit. Kim Wonhaeng paid attention to the active role of mind to realize the nature(性) in the real world. His theory of mibalyibal(未發已發) has a cultural pluralistic orientation in that it clarifies the theory of mibalyibal of the mind by emphasizing the aspects that include various and special empirical practice processes. In addition, he recognized Myeongdeok(明德) as a perceptive ability of the empty and bright mind, and he perceived that the mind is a subject that realizes nature with universality while being active in autonomy as various experiential affection. Therefore, Kim Wonhaeng s theory of Myeongdeok contains the theoretical implications that can open up a cultural pluralistic horizon.
