국제관광 수요의 대체효과 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 내국인 해외관광수요에 관해서 행선 국가별 추정을 통해 아시아 국가들의 한국인 관광에 대한 경쟁 행선지간의 관계를 파악하였다. 내국인 해외 관광의 행선 국가들은 문화, 여행 거리, 관광 패턴에 따라 동북아시아 그룹(일본, 중국, 홍콩, 대만)과 동남아시아 그룹(태국, 필리핀, 베트남, 싱가포르, 인도네시아, 말레시아) 두 그룹으로 분류하였다. 실증 결과에 따르면, 일본에의 해외관광은 중국 관광과 경쟁(대체)관계에 있으며, 중국에의 해외관광은 일본과 홍콩 관광에 경쟁(대체)관계에 있으며, 홍콩에의 해외관광은 중국 관광과 경쟁(대체)관계에 있음을 알 수 있다. 특히, 생활비 수준이 상대적으로 비싼 일본과 홍콩의 관광생활비 상승이 상대적으로 저렴한 중국 관광으로 대체되는 경향이 매우 강하며, 생활비 수준이 상대적으로 저렴한 중국의 관광생활비 상승은 상대적으로 비싼 일본 관광으로 대체되는 경향이 매우 약하다는 것을 발견하였다. 한편 동남아시아 해외관광에 있어서는 필리핀, 말레시아, 태국, 베트남에의 해외관광은 싱가포르 관광과 경쟁(대체)관계에 있으나, 싱가포르에의 관광은 필리핀, 말레시아, 태국, 베트남 관광과 경쟁(대체)관계 있지 않는 비대칭관계임을 알 수 있다. 이러한 비대칭성은 생활비 수준이 상대적으로 비싼 싱가포르의 생활비 상승이 상대적으로 저렴한 동남아시아 국가들로의 해외관광 대체에 큰 영향을 미치기 때문으로 여겨진다. 종합해보면, 내국인의 아시아 해외관광은 생활비 수준이 높은 국가들의 관광생활비 변화가 생활비수준이 낮은 국가들의 관광여행에 큰 영향을 미치는 비대칭성을 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

This study estimates international tourism demand functions of Korean tourists with tourism prices of destination as well as substitutable destination, and analyzes the substitution effect of international tourism demand. The destination countries are divided into two groups according to cultural, travel distance and tourism pattern differences; northeast Asian country group(Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) and southeast Asian country group(Thailand, Philippine, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia). Major findings of this paper could be summarized as follows. First, the substitution relationships of two pairs of northeast Asian countries, Japan-China and China-Hong Kong, are bilateral; which implies these two pair countries are mutually competitive as the destination countries of Korean tourists. The substitution effects towards China caused by tourism price increases of Japan and/or Hong Kong are elastic, while those of Japan and Hong Kong caused by tourism price increases of China are not. Second, as the destination countries of Korean tourists, four southeast Asian countries of Philippine, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia show substitution relationships with Singapore, while Singapore does not have substitution relationships with any other southeast Asian countries. Therefore, we could conclude that the increases of tourism prices of high living cost countries, like Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, tend to affect Korean tourism demands towards neighboring countries of relatively low living costs.
