국문 초록

이 글은 동물 해방 운동 단체인 디엑스이서울의 ‘방해 시위’가 정동적 아카이브로서의 인터넷 공간에서 불러일으킨 정동적 반향을 분석함으로써 동물권 운동의 새로운 전략을 모색하는 것을 목표로 한다. 방해 시위를 비롯한 동물권 운동은 인간종과 비인간종을 구분하는 뿌리 깊은 인간중심주의 규범에 도전하면서 개인 및 사회의 쾌/불쾌 경계를 건드리는바, ‘불편한’ 대상으로 미학화되고 있다. 나는 들뢰즈의 행동학과 정동론을 경유해 이러한 미학화에 비판적으로 개입하면서, 지금-여기의 가장 문제적인 정동이라 할 만한 ‘불편함’에 잠재된 새로운 정치성을 현실화시킬 수 있는 방안에 대하여 고민해 보고자 한다. 이 과정에서 나는 비인간 동물이 처한 현실을 둘러싼 정확한 인지적 정보의 전달이 동물 착취 현실을 종식시킬 수 있다는 입장에 이의를 제기하면서, 채식주의자로의 삶의 전환에 있어 이성보다 감정이 더욱 중요한 요소임을 주장할 것이다. 나아가 비인간 동물의 고통에 대한 감정이입을 요구하는 현재의 동물권 운동 전략이 가지는 한계들을 짚어 보면서, 신체 변용 능력을 상승시키기 위한 윤리-정치적 기획으로서의 ‘좋은’ 관계 맺기에 초점을 맞춘 정동 교육 혹은 미학 교육의 우선성을 강조하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This article aims to explore a new strategy for animal rights movements by analyzing an affective resonance of digital space as an affective archive, aroused by disruptive protests held by an animal liberation activist group, Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) Seoul. Challenging the deep-rooted anthropocentric norms that distinguish between human and non-human species, the animal rights movements, including the disruptive protest, disturb the individual or social boundaries between pleasure and displeasure, therefore being aestheticized as “uncomfortable” objects. By critically intervening in the aestheticization through Gilles Deleuze’s ethology and affect theory, I attempt to consider how to actualize a new politics latent in the “uncomfortableness,” which is one of the most problematic affects of here and now. In this process, I object to the arguments that an accurate delivery of cognitive information surrounding the non-human animals’ realities can bring the animal exploitation to an end, and instead argue that, in a transition to a vegetarian lifestyle, emotion should be considered a more crucial factor than reason. Furthermore, examining the limitations of the current strategy that demands empathy for non-human animals’ pain, I suggest placing priority to affective or aesthetic education, which focuses on building a “good” relationship as an ethical-political project to increase the body’s capacity for affection.
