교양영어교육에서의 수준별 영어수업

국문 초록

현 사회와 기업이 원하는 인재 상 중 ‘영어로의 능숙한 커뮤니케이션’은 국제화의 시대적 분위기 속에 갈수록 증가되고 있다. 이러한 흐름에 맞추어 대학에서 영어교육이 강화되고 양적 개선뿐만 아니라 질적 개선도 이루어지고 있다. 영어능력이 탁월한 학생들의 입학이 늘어남에 따라 같은 과 내에서도 학생들 간의 영어실력 차이가 커지고 있는 상황에서 교양영어교육의 질적 개선의 일환으로 수준별 수업의 필요성이 증대되고 있다. 본 논고에서는 서울에 소재한 유수 대학들의 기초교양 영어교육의 수준별 수업 현황을 개관하고, 한양대학교 서울캠퍼스의 기초교양 영어의 수준별 영역별 운영을 소개하면서, 그 효과와 문제점들을 제시하고자 한다. 신입생 영어레벨테스트의 평가기준과 방법, 절차와 성적에 따른 레벨 구분 및 우수반 (Advanced Class)의 편성과 운영에 관한 설명과 함께, 차별화된 영어교육을 위한 방향과 개선점을 제시한다.

영문 초록

Fluent English communication ability as one of essential merits for elites for the society and the corporation has been highly evaluated under the Globalization trend. To meet such need, most universities try to improve their curriculum of English Education either in quantitative or qualitative ways. In the present situation when the number of students with high English ability is increased so much in admission that the gap between the advanced level and low level students in English skills is widened in a class. This study gives an overview on the level differentiated education of college English in seven major universities located in Seoul, and focuses on Hanyang University (Seoul campus) s curriculum of differentiated English education and their management while providing its effects and problems. Along with Hanyang University s English level test for freshmen, criteria and methods of the assessment, level assignment and its implementation on class including advanced class operation are discussed, followed by some suggestions for better differentiated English education.
