문화 간 소통을 지향하는『벨킨 이야기』읽기

국문 초록

이 글에서는 “문화 간 소통”이라는 강의목표 아래 푸쉬킨의 『벨킨 이야기』를 교양과목으로 강의한 수업사례를 보여주고자 하였다. 첫 번째, ‘문화에서 문학으로’의 단계에서는 작품을 읽기 전 러시아와 푸쉬킨을 생소하게 여기는 학생들을 위해 푸쉬킨을 ‘위대한 대작가’가 아니라 ‘인간적으로’ 소개하였다. 또 프랑스와의 역사적 관계 속에서 러시아를 소개하였으며, 점차적으로 범위를 좁혀 낭만주의와 사실주의라는 문예사조를 간략히 소개하였다. 두 번째, ‘몰아적 책 읽기’의 단계에서는 작품에 몰입할 수 있도록 두 가지 수업활동 - 즉, 연극과 글쓰기 - 를 하였다. 이 두 활동의 결과 학생들은 『벨킨 이야기』의 세부내용까지 속속들이 이해할 수 있었다. 세 번째, ‘문학에서 다시 문화읽기’의 단계에서는 작품을 잘 이해하게 된 학생들이 이를 바탕으로 동시대의 러시아의 문화 전반으로까지 관심을 넓혀가는 과정을 보여주고자 하였다. 결론적으로 『벨킨 이야기』의 경우처럼 해당 문학작품의 특성을 잘 고려하여 가르친다면 교양교육으로서 외국문학교육도 성공적으로 이루어진다는 사실을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study was to show a case study of a liberal arts class which dealt with 『벨킨 이야기』 of Aleksandr Sergeevich Pushkin as its main theme. The goal of this liberal arts class was cultural communication and understanding and there were 3 stages in building up the class. First, in the introduction stage, we introduced Pushkin and the Russian culture to students who were not familiar with Russian culture. We introduced Pushkin not as a great writer but as an ordinary man and Russia was introduced based on its relations with France. In addition, we briefly explained the concepts of romanticism and realism. Second, in the self-effacing reading stage, we encouraged students to have two class activities, such as role play and writing in order to help them absorb self-effacing reading. Third, we tried to show the process of how students expanded their knowledge from understanding Russian literature to having an interest in contemporary Russian culture in the transition stage. In conclusion, we found that we can achieve successful foreign literature education through a liberal arts class if we consider the characteristics of the foreign literature texts and teach them effectively.
