국문 초록

일반적으로 종말론은 묵시사상적으로 이해된다. 곧 하나님이 지으신 세계가 인간의 죄로 말미암아 대파멸과 폐기로 끝나는 것으로 이해된다. 여기서 종말은 세계의 “끝남”(finis)로 이해된다. 이 같은 묵시사상적 종말론은 세계에 대한 체념, 세계로부터의 도피, 세계에 대한 무책임성을 초래한다. 그것은 사실상 세계를 창조하고 죽은 예수를 살리신 하나님에 대한 불신앙이다. 이 같은 통속적, 묵시사상적 종말론에 반해 본 논문은, 기독교의 참 종말론은 예수 그리스도의 말씀과 활동, 그의 삶과 죽음과 부활을 통해 근거된 종말론임을 밝힌다. 여기서 종말은 세계의 대파멸과 폐기가 아니라, 예수의 죽음과 부활을 통해 새롭게 시작된 하나님 나라의 완성으로 파악된다. 기독교 종말론은 하나님 나라에 대한 희망의 이론이요, 하나님 나라를 향한 새 창조의 이론임을 밝힌다. 여기서 세계사의 목적은 세계의 끝남(finis)이 아니라, 하나님 나라의 완성에 있는 목적(telos)에 있는 것으로 밝혀진다. 본 논문은, 기독교 종말론의 본질과 과제는 바로 이 사실을 드러내고, 하나님 나라를 향한 희망과 새 창조의 정신을 신장하는 데 있음을 해명한다.

영문 초록

Eschatology means, in general, the apocalyptical eschatology which is understood as the end(eschaton) of the world that God created and its total destruction and annihilation through the sins of humankind, shortened as the “finis.” This apocalyptical understanding of the end of the world brings out the resignation and irresponsibility for the world and escapement from the world. It is, in reality, a theory of abandonment of the world. In contrary to this vulgar apocalyptical understanding of the end, the Christian eschatology understands the end of the world not as the total destruction and annihilation, but as the fulfillment of the Kingdom of God which is began through the resurrection of Jesus Christ who was dead on the Cross. The Christian eschatology grounded on Jesus Christ is in substance the theory on the hope of the messianic Kingdom of God, the theory of New Creation toward the Kingdom. The last aim of the world is understood here not as the end, “finis,” but as the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom, “telos.” The substance and function of the Christian eschatology consist in the explanation of the Christologically grounded meaning of the end of the world and the requirement of the messianic spirit of hope and New Creation toward the Kingdom of God.
