국문 초록

논문은 古地圖와 文獻(地誌類)자료, 현장조사연구를 통해 義州大路의 원형을 파악하고, 현전상태를 조명하는 글이다. 전통시대 한반도 중부와 북부를 이어주는 큰 길은 義州大路였다. 의주대로는 정치적으로 대중국 관계의 중요성이 컸던 탓으로 한양(서울)과 의주를 거쳐 중국과 연결되는 가장 중요한 도로였다. 그러나 무엇보다도 의주대로는 조선 지식인들이 중국을 통해 세계를 경험하던 통로였다. 의주대로는 세계로 향하던 길이자 동서 문물교류의 길로도 의미가 확장될 수 있다. 본고는 이러한 의주대로의 역사문화적 가치를 재인식하고, 그 역사공간의 현황을 살펴봄으로써 의주대로의 역사성과 노정공간의 원형복원을 시도하였다. 무엇보다도 현재 의주대로 현장연구가 매우 부족한 상황에서, 의주대로의 원형성을 기반으로 채록(생산)된 주요 공간-지점-유적들에 대한 영상기록물(사진·동영상)과 GPS좌표(경로) 데이터(DB)는 1차 자료인 문헌과 고지도의 내용을 보완하는 의미가 있고, 의주대로 역사지리 연구 방법론의 한 형태가 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the original form of Euiju-Daero based on ancient maps and archives and the state of this remaining main road. Euiju-Daero was the main road that connected the midsection of the Korean Peninsula to the northern part of it in the traditional era. This road served as a means of traffic and communication, and was more characterized by political and military functions than by economic function due to the necessity of local governance, relations with China and national defense. Moreover, this road was a route by which intellectuals experienced the world through China in the Joseon era. Indeed, Euiju-Daero was a significant road that was headed for the world and facilitated civilization exchange between the Asia and the West. Thus, the historical and cultural value of Euiju-Daero are so great, and the state of this historical space was analyzed in an attempt to shed light on the historicity of the road and restore it to its original form. Currently, there is a lack of action research on Euiju-Daero. Under the circumstances, the database that included the visual records(photos and video clips) of the major spaces and remains on this main road and the GPS coordinates is of significance in that it made up for the primary data of archives and ancient maps, and the efforts by this study are expected to suggest a possible research methodology about the history and geography of Euiju-Daero.
