조선후기 연행록(燕行錄)을 통해 본 보이차 견문

국문 초록

본고의 목적은 청(淸)과의 교류 양상 중 당시의 다양한 차문화를 살펴보고, 그중 보이차문화가 조선후기에 어떻게 전개되어 갔는지 그 흐름과 양상을 집중적으로 조명해 보는데 있다. 이를 위해 본고는 조선 후기의 연행록을 주로 살펴보았다. 연행록에 기록된 당시의 차문화는 청 황실뿐만 아니라 사행길의 차점이나 민가의 차 마시는 풍정까지 다양한 편이다. 보이차의 명칭은 저자에 따라 다양하게 표기되어 있으며, 보이차의 종류나 형태, 품질에 관한 기록들도 자세히 남아 있다. 연행록을 일관해 볼 때, 조선후기의 보이차 문화는 3단계의 발전 양상을 보이고 있다. 1단계는 18세기 중후반부터 시작되는 유입단계이다. 2단계는 19세기 초반부터 시작되며, 자리매김이 이루어는 개화의 단계이다. 3단계는 19세기 중후반 이후 보이차에 대한 수요가 폭넓게 확장되며, 음미의 계층도 다양화하는 만개의 단계이다. 이러한 보이차문화는 열악한 조선의 차문화계에 하나의 자극제가 되어 토산차의 재발견 등 조선 후기의 차문화 부흥에도 일정 영향을 주었다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examined the various tea cultures of the time during the exchange patterns with the Qing Dynasty to highlight the trends and aspects of tea culture, such as how Pu-erh tea culture developed during the late Joseon Dynasty. To that end, this study focused mainly on ‘Yan Xing Lu’ from the late Joseon Dynasty. The tea culture of the time, recorded in the ‘Yan Xing Lu’, ranged from the imperial court of the Qing Dynasty to the tea shops on the way to the tea-drinking scene of folklore. The name of Pu-erh tea varies according to the author, and records on the type, form, and quality of Pu-erh tea are kept in detail. In the ‘Yan Xing Lu’, the Pu-erh tea culture showed three stages of development. Stage 1 was the inflow stage that began in the mid to late 18th century. The second stage began in the early 19th century, and was the stage of establishing development. The third stage was the stage of blooming, in which the demand for Pu-erh tea expanded from the mid to late 19th century, and the class of people enjoying it diversified. This culture of Pu-erh tea served as a stimulus to the poor culture of tea in the Joseon Dynasty, and influenced the revival of tea culture in the late Joseon period, including the rediscovery of native tea.
