스토리텔링을 활용한 유아 가야금 지도방안 연구

국문 초록

유아기에 이루어지는 다양한 경험과 활동은 아이가 자라나 삶을 살아가는데 지속적으로 영향을 미친다. 그렇기에 유아기 때 우리 음악을 배우고 경험한 아이들이 커서도 우리 음악을 듣고 즐기는 것이 가능하다고 판단되며 이는 유아기에 올바른 국악 교육이 이루어져야 하는 근거로 볼 수 있다. 이와 같은 연유에서 유아기에 우리 음악을 익힐 수 있는 적절한 지도가 필요함을 느끼고 스토리텔링 방식과 접목한 유아 가야금 지도방안을 구안하였다. 가야금은 줄을 손으로 직접 뜯어 연주하는 방식이기에 보다 직관적이며, 안족(雁足)에 고정된 줄을 연주하기에 소리 내기가 쉽다는 장점을 가진다. 또한 왼손으로 줄을 누르거나 흔들면서 시김새 표현을 스스로 경험하고 직접 느껴보는 것이 가능하다. 그렇기에 국악기를 처음 접하는 유아가 큰 어려움 없이 다룰 수 있는 전통 악기로 적합하다고 본다. 가야금을 익힐 때 낯설게 느껴질 수 있는 악기의 구조나 명칭, 역사적 유래는 스토리텔링 방식을 적용하여 유아들에게 한층 친숙하면서도 자연스럽게 다가갈 수 있도록 구성하였으며, 실제 가야금을 활용한 지도 활동을 통해 악기에 대한 호기심을 충분히 해결하고 연주하기 전 생길 수 있는 막연한 두려움도 어느 정도 극복할 수 있도록 설정하였다. 보다 효과적인 지도를 위해 ‘가야금의 유래’, ‘가야금의 종류와 명칭’, ‘가야금 연주’ 의 세 가지 주제로 나누어 제시하였으며 유아의 수준과 흥미를 고려한 적절한 캐릭터를 만들어 함께 활용하였다.

영문 초록

A variety of experiences and activities taking place during early childhood continue to influence a child’s life. This is a solid basis for why proper education of Korean music should come into action during early childhood. Young children who grew up familiar with Korean music are likely to listen to and enjoy Korean music readily. For that reason, gayageum (12-string zither, an instrument that children can easily play) was selected among other Korean traditional musical instruments, and a teaching method of gayageum for young children was designed by using storytelling. Gayageum is played by hand-plucking strings and is more intuitive than any other Korean instrument. The strings fixed with bridges make it easy for anyone to smoothly play in tune. By pressing or vibrating a string with the left hand, one can accurately see, hear, and ensure the movement of nonghyun (resonant vibrato). This makes it suitable for young children, who are new to Korean instruments, to experience the tone and atmosphere of Korean music. The teaching method was designed to be more friendly and accessible to children by approaching challenging parts such as historical origin, names, and performance techniques of gayageum through storytelling. It was also designed to gratify children’s curiosity and eliminate their fears prior to playing the instrument through hands-on experience. Three-themed lessons were created, namely “Origin of Gayageum,” “Types and Names of Gayageum,” and “Gayaguem Performance.” Considering the level and interest of children, male and female characters were also used for the lessons. In teaching young children gayageum, learning effect can be maximized when children play a song in its entirely at their level rather than exploring many different songs. It is expected that young children will fully experience self-efficacy and further cultivate their emotions to appreciate Korean music through playing gayageum.
