국문 초록

인간을 포함하여 생명의 역사는 다양한 생물 개체들의 공생의 기술의 역사이며, 이때마다 요구되었던 공생에 대한 감각으로서 공감은 인간을 포함하여 각 개체가 구체적으로 움직이는 만큼 성취되어 왔다. 이런 점에서 인간 공동체는 ‘다른 이에게 뻗는 손’에 의존하고 있다고 할 수 있으며, 생태계의 많은 생물들도 서로 간의 연결에 의존한다. 그런데 산업사회에 접어들면서, 특히 현대 사회에서 이러한 연결들은 급속하게 끊겨져 나가고 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 상황에서 우리 교육이 나아가야 할 방향성을 이웃교육이라는 이름으로 제안하고자 한다. 이웃교육은 존재하는 모든 것을 존중하는 데에서 출발하며, 보다 구체적으로는 교육활동이 다양한 사람-이웃뿐만 아니라 다양한 생물체-이웃에게도 관심을 가질 것을 요구한다. 진화의 연속성 관점에서 바라보았을 때 인간의 뇌는 다양한 사람 및 자연 생명체들과의 공존방식의 부산물이라고 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 인류와 지구의 공존을 위해서 우리 교육이 담당해야 할 바는 학생들이(아울러 교사도) 이제껏 무의미의 세계에 방치해 두었던 모든 생명 개체들과 올바른 관계를 맺을 수 있도록 기회를 제공하는 것이다. 이런 의미에서 이웃교육은 기회의 교육학, 기회 창출의 교육이라고 할 수 있다. 결론적으로 이웃교육은 이러한 관점에서 다양한 개인이 공동체에 다양한 기여를 할 수 있도록 다양하고 새로운 연결들을 계속해서 만들어 나가는 실천이며, 이를 통해 우리는 지금의 위기를 극복하고 공감사회를 향한 과정에 충실할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The history of life, including human beings, is the history of symbiotic techniques among various living creatures. As a sense of symbiosis is required in every occasion, sympathy has been achieved to the degree of concrete movements made by each entity, including man. In this sense, the human community depends on a helping hand given to others. Many creatures in the ecosystem also depend on their connections. However, in an industrial society, especially a modern society, these connections are rapidly cut off. This study set out to propose directionality for education in this situation in the name of community awareness education, which starts with respecting all things that exist. More specifically, it requires that the education not only look at various people as neighbors, but also various creatures as neighbors. From the perspective of evolutionary continuity, the human brain is a by-product of methods to coexist with a range of people and living creatures in nature. Education should thus aim to provide students (and teachers) with an opportunity for the right relationship with all living creatures neglected in the world of meaninglessness for the coexistence of humankind and Earth. In this aspect, community awareness education can be called a pedagogy of opportunity or education for opportunity creation. In conclusion, community awareness education is a way to constantly make and practice new and diverse connections in this aspect so that many individuals can make various contributions to the community. This will help overcome the current crisis and be true to the process toward a sympathetic society.
