예술인 재능기부 담론 전환이 필요하다

국문 초록

2008년 국제적 금융 위기 이후 늘어나기 시작한 재능기부 문화는 2010년 ‘재능을 나눕시다’ 캠페인을 거치면서 큰 폭으로 확산되었다. 예술계의 재능 기부는 다른 분야보다 더 큰 사회적 영향력을 가졌는데, 대중 연예인이나 유명인들의 재능기부가 특히 더 많은 관심을 끌었다. 동시에 극소수에 해당하는 유명 예술인들의 재능기부가 언론과 미디어를 통해 소개되면서, 대다수의 저소득 예술가들 역시 재능기부 대열에 이끌려갔다. 그리고 재능기부는 담론을 형성하고 사회 곳곳으로 퍼져 갔다. 재정적 여건이 풍족하지 못한 민간 사회 단체부터 국민의 세금을 운용하는 지자체까지 재능기부를 활성화하자는 메시 지가 도달하지 않는 곳이 없게 된 것이다.예술인들에게 재능은 생계 수단임과 동시에 삶의 방식이다. 하지만 사회는 예술가에게 재능을 많이 가졌으니 조금 내어놓으라고 이야기하는 모양새다. 이로부터 ‘타율적 재능기부’가 시작된다. 문제는 타율적 재능기부가 예술인과 수혜 단체 모두를 행복하게 해주지 못하고, 서로 관계를 왜곡하게 만들 수있다는 데 있다. 실제로 본 연구 결과 많은 예술인은 타율적 재능기부에 강요 당하고 있다고 말했다. 또한 이로 인해 재능기부에 대한 필요성, 만족도, 향후 참여 의향 등에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 예술인의 재능기부에 관한 담론 전환이 필요하다. 생계 수단으로의 예술, 노동으로의 예술에 대한 사회적 인식을 제고하고, 예술가의 창작적 의욕을 유지하는 방향으로 재능기부 담론이 형성되길 기대한다. 기존 연구가 수혜자 중심의 재능기부 활성화에 초점이 맞춰진 것이라면본 연구는 예술인 관점에서 재능기부 문제점을 분석하고 대안을 모색하였다는 데 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

Since its visible growth after the global financial crisis of 2008, the culture of talent donation has become a common phenomenon in Korea, particularly with the Sharing Talents Campaign of 2010. Talent donation in the art world has greater social impact than in other fields. Talent donation, especially by popular entertainers and celebrities, attracted more attention. With the press and media publishing stories about talent donation of very few famous artists, the vast majority of low-income artists were also caught up in the talent donation wave. Talent donation soon garnered social discourse and became pervasive throughout society. Virtually every organization—from poorly-financed civil organizations to local government agencies spending taxpayers’ money—got the message that talent donation became a social norm. To artists, talents are both a means of livelihood and a way of life. But society seems to be demanding that artists give a little bit of the many talents they have. This is the beginning of ‘heteronomous talent donation’. The resulting problem is that heteronomous talent donation satisfies neither the artist nor the beneficiary organization. It can even distort their relationship. In fact, the study results show that many artists feel forced to take part in heteronomous talent donation. It is also found to influence the necessity of talent donation, satisfaction, intention for future participation, etc. A transition is needed in the discourse on artists’ talent donation. It is hoped that the discourse on talent donation shifts to enhance social awareness of art as means of livelihood and labor while maintaining creative volition of artists. Compared to previous studies that focused on the promotion of talent donation from the beneficiaries’ point of view, this study is meaningful for its attempt in analyzing problems of talent donation and exploring viable alternatives from the artists’ perspective.
