알비 ‘십자군’: 중세 프랑스의 ‘내전’?

국문 초록

알비 십자군은 프랑스사에서 매우 독특한 의미를 지니는 사건이었다. 잉글랜드와 프랑스의 대결, 랑그도크 지역을 둘러싼 아라곤왕과 툴루즈백의 경쟁, 전유럽에 대한 보편적 권위를 확립하려는 로마 교회의 정책과 현실적으로 파편화되어 있는 다양한 봉건세력들, 사도적 이상을 추구하는 ‘좋은 사람들’의 열정들이 뒤엉킨 사건이었다. 알비 ‘십자군’은 보편적 교회를 확립하려는 교회의 편집증에서 시작되었으나 본격적인 전개과정은 봉건적인 북부 귀족들과 남부 귀족들 간의 ‘남북전쟁’으로 진행되었다. 그리고 최종적으로 그 열매는 교황권의 확립이라는 과정을 거쳐 프랑스 카페왕정에게 되돌아갔다. 그리고 그 와중에 교회권력과 교황의 이데올로기를 정당화하기 위한 대규모의 제노사이드가 펼쳐졌다. 오늘날 프랑스의 본격적인 윤곽은 13세기 초 필리프 2세 당시에 만들어졌다. 그 윤곽이 사회적·문화적 동질성 또는 소통가능성을 지니는 것은 아니었지만 적어도 하나의 정치공동체를 만들어낼 영토적 기반은 되었다. 이러한 차원에서 13세기 초에 발생했던 부빈 전투(1214)와 함께 알비 십자군은 향후 프랑스 왕국의 통합에 결정적인 사건이 되었다. 그렇지만 여러 프랑스들에서 하나의 프랑스로 나아가는 길은 ‘가장 기독교적인 왕’이라는 황망한 신화와 피로 물든 끔찍한 대학살로 점철되어 있었다. 또한 이 사건은 단일해 보이는 프랑스 이전에 복수의 이질적인 프랑스들이 있었다는 점을 보여준다.

영문 초록

The Albigensian Crusade was a very unique event in French history, tangled with the confrontation between England and France, the competition between King Aragon and Toulouse over the Languedoc region, the policies of the Roman Church to establish universal authority over Europe, the various feudal forces that were realistically fragmented, and the passion of the ‘good people’ pursuing apostolic ideals. Albigensian Crusade started with the paranoia of the church to establish a universal authority, but the full-scale development process was carried out as ‘South-North War’ between feudal northern nobles and southern nobles. Finally, the fruit returned to the French Capetian monarchy through the process of establishing the papacy. In the meantime, a large-scale Genocide was unfolded to justify the church power and the Pope’s ideology. Today, the full-scale outline of France was created at the time of Philip II in the early 13th century. The outline did not have social and cultural homogeneity or communication possibility, but it became a territorial base to create at least one political community. In this respect, with the Battle of Bouvines(1214), the Albigensian Crusades was a major turning point to integrate the kingdom of France. But the path from France’s’ to one France was marked by a terrible massacre of blood and a frantic myth of the ‘most Christian king’. This war also shows that there were multiple heterogenous France’s’ before one single France.
