어기와 접사의 경계에 대한 재고찰

국문 초록

본고의 목적은 어기와 접사 개념을 재검토하고, 구성문법이론에 기반하여 단어와 구를 ‘도식(schema)’으로 포착할 것을 제안하는 것이다. 본고는 이를 가장 명료하 게 보이기 위해, 의미와 형식의 차이를 보이지 않으면서도, 서로 다른 형태론적 지 위(어기, 접사, 단어)를 부여 받을 수 있는 형식들을 중심으로 논의를 진행하였다. 어기와 접사는 단어 형성론의 기본 개념으로 받아들여져 왔다. 그러나 단어의 구성 요소를 어기와 접사로 분류하였을 때, 예외가 매우 많고 체계적이며, 심리적으로도 어기와 접사의 구별이 명백하지 않다. 이러한 점을 해결하기 위해 ‘원형이론적인 접근 방법’, ‘문법 기술의 목적에 따른 개별 기준의 적용과 교차 분류’, ‘제3의 부류 설정’ 등이 해결책으로 제시되었다. 본고에서는 구성문법 이론에 기반한 분류를 제안하였다. 이에 의하면 다양한 다른 형태론적 지위를 보이는 언어 단위에 대하여, 언어 단위 자체가 별개의 단위들로 변화하고 분화하는 것이 아니라, 이 언어 단위가 ‘변항을 포함한 구성(구성 도식)’에 참여하고, 그 구성 도식이 생성, 확장, 축소되는 것으로 설명할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to reconsider the concepts of base and affix, and to suggest that words and phrases are captured as schema based on construction grammar. In order to make this clearer, this paper discusses forms that can be given different morphological status (bases, affixes, words) without showing differences in meaning and form. Base and affix have been accepted as basic concepts of word formation. However, when the components of a word are classified into base and affix, there are many exceptions and psychological distinction between base and affix is not clear. To address these issues, the solution was presented in terms of a prototype theory approach, the cross-classification of criteria according to the purpose of the description, and the establishment of a third class. This paper proposes a classification based on construction grammar theory, which suggests that, for a language unit that exhibits a variety of different morphological statuses. The language unit itself does not change and differentiate into distinct units, it can be described as participating in the schema, and the schema is generated, expanded, and reduced.
