국문 초록

본 논문은 대한민국 역사의 격동기인 1970-80년대의 민주 항쟁 시기를 치열하게 살았던 소원 김찬국의 출애굽 신학을 이해하려는 시도이다. 김찬국의 출애굽 사건에 대한 이해와 해석은 그가 경험했던 시대적인 흐름과 요구에 부합하고 있다. 그가 인용한 성서 본문은 공동번역 개정판(1998)이었다. 개신교 목사인 김찬국이 그가 주장하는 출애굽 사건의 해방 사건적 의미를 부각하기 위해 애굽에서 살던 이스라엘 백성의 억압과 고통의 삶을 잘 표현해주는 번역 본문을 인용했다는 사실은 한편으로는 놀랍기도 하고, 또 다른 한편으로는 존경할 만한 일이라고 생각된다. 에큐메니컬적인 차원에서 볼때, 그의 논점을 강조하기 위한 선구자적인 시도라고 하겠다. 또한, 김찬국은 출애굽 사건을 ‘출애굽 운동’이라고 하면서 바로에게 억압받던 이스라엘 백성의 ‘해방 사건’으로 본다. 그의 글들은 성서 본문을 해석학적으로 접근하고 있는 모습을 보여준다. 히브리어 본문에 대한 주석적 연구보다는, 김찬국의 구약신학은 ‘신정통주의 신학’의 배경을 갖고 있기 때문에 그의 ‘출애굽 신학’도 궁극적으로 해방신학과 민중신학의 조직신학적 배경을 갖고 형성되었다. 따라서 이스라엘 백성의 현실적인 상황에 대한 이해보다는, 한국의 정황이 대입된 ‘재맥락화’(recontextualization)의 경향을 보인다. 출애굽 사건의 궁극적인 목적이 해방이라고 보는 김찬국의 신학적 입장은 당시에 가장 절실했던 해석학적 요구였다. 비록 출애굽기 본문연구에 근거하여 출애굽 신학을 정립한 것은 아니지만, 김찬국은 그가 살았던 당시의 한국 사회가 요구하는 민주화의 목소리와 희망을 표현하기 위해 출애굽 사건을 해방 사건으로 ‘재개념화’(reconceptualization)하여 이해하고 있었던 것이다.

영문 초록

Interpretations of biblical texts vary depending on the interpreters’ historical, sociological, and political contexts. In the history of Korea one of the most turbulent periods would be 1970s and 80s. The late professor Chan-Kook Kim lived in that difficult time when the democratic movements became part of everyday life. His theology was naturally shaped according to the experiences of his time. As the title of this article shows, “Understanding of Chan-Kook Kim’s Exodus Theology”, Kim’s understanding and interpretation of the Exodus event is pretty much harmonized with the historical demand that he experienced in Korea. When Kim quoted the biblical passages, he used the Korean translation of the Catholic Bible instead of the Protestant Bible. The fact that a Protestant pastor used the Catholic Bible itself could be controversial but he did not seem to care much. From the ecumenical perspective, what Kim did was a pioneer. In Kim’s opinion the vivid image of Israel’s oppression and lament could be felt only in the Korean translation of the Catholic Bible. Kim called the Exodus event the ‘Exodus Movement’ and understood it as ‘Liberation event’ for the people of Israel. Although he did not use textual criticism or the archaeological approach, he adopted the hermeneutical interpretation of the biblical texts. It is all because Kim’s theology is based on the Neo-Orthodox theology which belongs to systematic theology. Therefore, his understanding of the Exodus theology was heavily influenced by ‘Liberation Theology’ and ‘Minjung Theology’. The context of the Israelites in Egypt in 13th century BCE was recontextualized with the context of the 1970s and 80s in Korea.
