<유화기연(柳花奇緣)>에 나타난 결핍해소의 방식과 그 의미 －결연양상을 중심으로－

국문 초록

<유화기연(柳花奇緣>은 제목에서 나타내고 있듯 ‘유’씨와 ‘화’씨의 기이한 연분을 담고 있는 조선후기 국문소설 작품이다. 남주인공인 유씨의 가문과 여주인공인 화씨 가문의 천정결연을 전면에 내세우고 있으면서도 또 한편으로는 남주인공 과 기녀와의 결연담을 높은 비중으로 함께 다루고 있다는 점에서 독특한 면모를 가지고 있다. 특히 <유화기연>속 남녀의 결연양상은 주인공의 결핍을 해소하는 역할을 수행한다는 점에서 주목할 필요가 있다. 남주인공인 유춘이 영웅의 면모를 갖추고 있음에도 불구하고, 결핍을 해결해야할 상황에 있어서는 신이한 존재의 원조가 아닌 결연을 맺은 여성인물을 통해 이루어지기 때문이다. 따라서 본고에서는 <유화기연>의 서사전개 과정에서 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 독 특한 면모를 지닌 남녀주인공의 결연양상에 대해 면밀히 살펴봄으로써 작중 역할과 효과에 대해 밝혀보는 것을 목적으로 한다. <유화기연>에서 남자주인공인 ‘유춘’은 전생에 태을선녀와 희롱한 죄목을 가지고 있을 뿐만 아니라 연회에서 ‘소변’을 본 특이한 죄목을 추가적으로 가지고 있다. 이로 인해 현세에서 성기능이 결핍된 존재로 태어나 고난의 비중이 훨씬 커지게 된다. 전생 연회담에서의 ‘소변’ 사건은 현세에서 성기가 없는 남주인공의 기이한 탄생담에서 더 나아가 고난담으로까지 확장됐다고 볼 수 있다. 또한 이것이 남녀의 결 연양상에 얽히게 되면서 성기능 결핍에 대한 서사의 확장 요소로 작용하게 된다. 또한 <유화기연>에서는 천정연분으로 이루어진 ‘화소저’와의 결연뿐만 아니라. 기녀 ‘옥랑’과 결연을 맺는 기녀결연담도 서사의 큰 비중을 차지하고 있으며 핵심축으로 기능한다. 기녀 옥랑과는 전생의 연분이 없을지라도 옥랑이 유춘과 강한 결연의지를 드러내고 주도적으로 행동함에 따라 천정결연에 버금가는 결연관계로 자리매김한다. 유춘과 옥랑의 결연은 기녀인 옥랑이 지인지감(知人知鑑)을 발휘하여 시회(詩會)에 참여한 유춘의 진면모를 알아보고 결연을 주도하여 사건을 이 끌어 나간다는 점에서 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 또한 옥랑과 유춘의 결연양상은 신분적으로나 경제적으로 우위에 있는 남성이 아름다운 매력을 가진 기녀에게 호감을 가져 접근하여 애정결연을 맺고 끝나는 결연담과는 차이를 보인다. 여기서 옥랑의 형상은 남성이 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 노류장화의 형상으로 나타나지 않으며, 사대부가의 규녀와 비등한 외모와 음률, 시재(詩才)를 갖추었으며 다른 남자들의 희롱에도 유춘말고는 곁을 내어주지 않는 인물로 설정되어 유춘의 결 연대상으로 자리함으로써 훗날 남주인공의 성적 결핍까지 해소해 주는 기능을 수행하여 <유화기연>만의 기녀결연담을 구성하게 된다. 때문에 <유화기연>에서는 남주인공 성기의 결핍문제를 환상성의 요소로 축소시키거나 해결시키지 않는다. 물론 작중에 천상계의 요소가 삽입되어 있지 않은 것은 아니다. 천상계의 요소들을 서사에 배치해 놓았으나 이들은 남녀의 결연이 깨지지 않도록 유지시켜주는 역할, 남주인공이 대외적 영역에서 활약할 때 활약상을 그릴 수 있도록 조력하는 역 할 이상으로 벗어나지 않는다. 그러므로 유춘의 결핍을 드러내어 고난을 제공하고, 또 결핍을 해소해 주는 것은 오로지 ‘남녀의 결연으로 맺어진 인연’이며 화소저와 옥랑에게만 각각의 자격을 주고 있다. 그러므로 작품 속에 나타난 남녀결연 양상 을 살펴보는 것은 영웅군담소설의 큰 범주에 속하는 <유화기연>이 지닌 일반적인영웅소설의 서사적 특성에 구별되는 독특한 지점을 고찰하는데 있어 중요성을 지닌다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

As the title suggests, is a Korean-language novel of the late Joseon Dynasty that contains a curious connection between Yu and Hwa. It is unique in that while the family of the heroine Yoo and the family of the heroine Hwa are at the forefront of the story, and it deals with the relationship between the hero and the ‘기녀’ in a high proportion. The relationship between a man and a woman in the work is a big part of the narrative structure of the work, and despite the hero s appearance of the hero, the occurrence and resolution of major events take place under the relationship between a man and a woman, not a special being. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to find out about the effects of association between men and women of unique appearance, as well as the significant contribution of the introduction of . In the work, the main character not only has a flirting sin with the Taegeul Sunnyeo in his previous life, but also an unusual sin of seeing sobyeon at a banquet. This will result in a lack of sexual function in the present world, resulting in a much greater proportion of hardship. Therefore, the incident of sobyeon at a banquet in his previous life has expanded from the bizarre birth story of a male protagonist without genitalia to a story of hardship. It also becomes entangled in the bondage between men and women, serving as an extension of the narrative for the ‘ChunJungyeon’ and for the lack of sexual function. Also, in the work, not only is the association made up of ‘Cheonjeongyeon.’, the story of a fairy-tale that binds with the ‘기녀 Ok-lang’ also forms a large stem of the epic story. ‘기녀 Ok-rang’ has no previous relationship with ‘Yuchun’, but as ‘Ok-rang’ acts in a way that reveals his strong connection with ‘Yuchun’, his best friend, and it is comparable to that of ‘Yoochun’, a painter. The relationship between ‘Yuchun’ and ‘Ok-rang’ is significant in that they recognize Yoo s presence in the city council by showing a sense of recognition by Okrang, and then lead the case to solve it. Also, the relationship between Ok-rang and Yoo-chun is different from the relationship story in which a man with an upper hand, both physically and economically, approaches a ‘기녀’ with a beautiful charm and ends in a bond. The shape of Ok-rang is not easily accessible to men. It has a high profile, a high level of voice, and a visual acuity. It is a man who does not give side to other men s jokes. In the future, Ok-rang plays a role in solving the male lead s sexual deficiency, forming a story that is unique to . The epic does not solve the male sex organ deficiency problem with the element of illusions. Of course, the elements of the celestial system are inserted in the works. Although elements of the heavenly system have been placed in various places, they do not deviate from their role of keeping the relationship between a man and a woman unbreakable and their supporting roles to help the male lead portray his performance when he is active in the international arena. It is only the relationship between men and women that reveals the deficiency of ‘Yuchun’ and provides hardship and solves the deficiency. Only Ok-lang is qualified. Therefore, looking at the relationship between men and women in the work is important in examining where the story of , which falls into a large category of hero novels, distinguishes itself from the characteristics of common hero novels.
