국문 초록

이 논문은 5·18관련 가짜뉴스의 기원과 실태를 1980년 당시의 언론보도 분석과 북한군 침투설에 대한 사례 연구를 통해 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 가짜뉴스의 개념적 요소를 ‘허위, 의도성, 기사형식, 작성주체’로 규정하고, 5·18민주화운동 기간의 언론보도를 분석한 결과 가짜뉴스에 부합한다는 사실을 규명했다. 5·18관련 가짜뉴스의 기원이 되는 1980년 당시의 언론보도는 신군부의 검열과 강압, 그리고 언론사의 굴종에 따른 결과라는 것을 확인했다. 이번 연구과정에서 새롭게 발견한 군기록물은 신군부의 철저한 보도 통제와 함께 언론의 자발적 협조 또한 상당했다는 사실을 보여준다. 최근 일부 언론과 SNS에서 광범위하게 유포되고 있는 북한군 침투설은 5·18관련 가짜뉴스의 대표적인 사례로서 이데올로기적 공세에 불과하다는 사실을 논증하였다. 이러한 논증을 통하여 5·18관련 가짜뉴스의 심각성에 대한 인식을 제고하고, 진실담론의 정립과 아울러 5·18민주화운동 부인죄 도입과 같은 법적규제가 필요하다고 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the origin and actual status of fake news related to May 18 Democratization Movement through a case study on the analysis of media reports and the infiltration of North Korean army in 1980. For this analysis, firstly, the conceptual elements of fake news were defined as false, intentionality, article type, article writer in this paper and the analysis shows that the media reports produced during the May 18 Democratization Movement were clearly categorized as fake news. This paper reveals that the media reports in the 1980s, which were the origin of fake news related to May 18, were the result of the censorship, coercion and submission of the press forced by the new military. The newly discovered military records in this study show that the voluntary cooperation of the media with the thorough military control of the military officers was also significant. Recently, it has been argued that the infiltration of the North Korean army, which is widespread in some media and SNS, is only an ideological offensive as a representative example of fake news related to May 18. Through these arguments, This study suggests that, along with the establishment of the truth discourse, we need to introduce the criminal system against the disaffirmance of the May 18 Democratization Movement and the enhancement of the awareness on the seriousness of the false news related to May 18 Democratization Movement is also necessary.
