국문 초록

혼돈과 변화의 회오리 속에서도 사명과 목적에 대한 헌신으로 방향을 잃지 않고 구성원들과 기업의 실질적 변화를 이끌어내는 진성리더십(Authentic leadership)에 대한 이해는 어느 때보다 시급하다. 본 논문에서는 JW그룹의 설립자 성천 이기석 사장의 진성리더십을 탐구한다. 성천 이기석 사장은 유한양행의 창립자 유일한 박사와 함께 한국 제약업계를 대표하는 진성리더로 회자되고 있음에도 학계에서는 아직 심도 있게 조명되지 못한 인물이다. 본 연구에서는 이기석 사장이 진성 리더로서 사명에 대한 헌신을 토대로 자기인식, 자기규제, 균형된 정보처리, 관계적 투명성을 어떻게 실천하여 지금과 같은 JW그룹의 토대를 만들 수 있었는지를 탐구한다. 지금처럼 변화가 상수로 받아들여지고 있는 시대에 길을 잃지 않고 기업의 역사를 만든 숨은 진성리더를 발굴해서 소개하는 작업은 시대적 과제이다.

영문 초록

A clear understanding of the authentic leadership is more urgent than ever. Authentic leaders have been cited as the leaders who historically initiated substantive changes in members and enterprises in challenging times. Despite the whirlwind of chaos and change, they do not lose its direction due to commitment to mission and purpose. In this paper, we explore the authentic leadership of the founder of JW Group, Lee Ki-Seok(Sung Chun). Lee Ki-Seok is said to be an authentic leader representing the Korean pharmaceutical industry along with Dr. Yu Il-Han, the founder of Yuhan Corporation. The authentic leadership of Lee Ki-Seok has yet to be highlighted in depth in the academic world. In this study, I explore his leadership and examine how he practiced the four dimensions of authentic leadership (e.g., self-reflection, self-regulation, balanced information processing and relational transparency) based on his commitment to his mission. I also explore how he laid the foundation of the JW Group and left his legacy to the company. In an era of changes, it is an instructive task to find and introduce many authentic leaders who made history of companies without losing their way.
