방송 상품에서 문화적 정서로 인한 한국인 시어머니와 외국인 며느리의 심리적 거리

국문 초록

본 연구는 EBS의 “다문화 고부열전”이라는 프로그램을 토대로 나타나는 심리적 거리를 이해수준이론(Construal Level: CLT)을 바탕으로 공간적 거리와 사회적 거리 측면에서 분석해 보았다. <시나리오 1>, <시나리오 2>, <시나리오 3>, 그리고 <시나리오 4>을 통해 다음과 같은 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 한국인 시어머니와 외국인 며느리의 언어적 차이로 인한 의사소통의 불편성이다. 짧은 한국어로 아직은 한국문화에 서툰 외국인 며느리가 시어머니를 이해하기는 매우 쉽지 않다는 점이다. 둘째, 한국인 시어머니들의 외국인 며느리에 대한 태도를 들 수 있다. 시어머니의 배려가 오히려 외국인 며느리들에게는 매우 불편한 관계를 형성하는 주요요 인으로 작용한다는 것이다. 셋째, <시나리오 1>에서 보았듯이 어떤 것에 대한 상황이나 사건에 대해 물어봤을 때, 한국인 시어머니는 솔직하게 말해주기보다는 “때가 되면 다 알게 될 것”이라며 대답을 회피하는 경향을 보이고 있다. 이러한 대화법은 상호간 관계형성에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 한국의 시어머니들의 아들에 대한 강한 애착은 단순히 고부간의 문제일 뿐 아니라 가족구성원 전체로 확대되어 질 수 있다는 점이다. 따라서 한국인 시어머니와 외국인 며느 리의 심리적 거리는 해석수준정도에 따라 공간적 거리가 아무리 가깝고 사회적 관계에 의한 친분이 있다고 하더라도 구체적이고 복잡하면서도 비구조적특성을 토대로 하위수준의 해석을 하는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed psychological distance that appears in a television program of EBS titled “Story of Multicultural Mothers-in-Law and Daughters-in-Law”in terms of spatial distance and social distance based on the construal level theory (CLT). The following conclusions were drawn from , , and. First, there is inconvenience in communication due to language differences between Korean mothers-in-law and foreign daughters-in-law.It is not easy for foreign daughters-in-law who are not fluent in Korean language to understand their mothers-in-law. Second, there is a problem in the attitude of Korean mothers-in-law toward daughters-in-law.Consideration and care of mothers-in-law actually result in an uncomfortable relationship with foreign daughters-in-law. The cultural conflict between Korean mothers-in-law who lived their entire life in the Confucian culture and foreign daughters-in-law who are familiar with a personal and open lifestyle is shown by one-sided and self-centered expression of affection. Third, as shown in ,there is a tendency to avoid answering questions using typical Korean expression that goes, “You will find out when the time comes.”Fourth, Korean mothers-in-law have strong attachment to their children, especially sons. Consequently, psychological distance between Korean mothers-in-law and foreign daughters-in-law was found to be very specific, complex and unstructured with a low construal level, no matter how close they are in terms of spatial distance and social relationship.
