디트리히 본회퍼의 『나를 따르라』에 대한 하나의 공적인 읽기

국문 초록

본 논문에서 필자는 디트리히 본회퍼가 『나를 따르라(Discipleship)』에서 제안하는 제자도는 정치와 사회 같은 공적인 영역에서 실현되어야 할 제자도라고 주장한다. 이를 위해서 필자는 먼저 『나를 따르라』에 제시되는 제자도가 개인의 내적인 변화를 기록하는 실존적 (existential) 제자의 길 이라고 해석하는 존 하워드 요더의 주장을 분석한다. 이렇게 함으로써 필자의 공적인 해석과의 차이점이 분명하게 드러나리라 기대하기 때문이다. 필자의『나를 따르라』에 대한 공적인 읽기는 두 가지 방법으로 진행된다. 첫째는 전기적 관점에서이다.『나를 따르라』가 태통한 시기는 유니온 신학교에서의 경험，히틀러가 집권한 1933 년의 시기，그리고 에큐메니컬 운동과 고백교회 참여를 통한 교회투쟁의 시기인데，필자는 이시기 본회퍼의 사상과 활동이 매우 정치적이었으며 이러한 사회정치성이 『나를 따르라』에도 그대로 반영된다고 주장한다. 두 번째는『나를 따르라』에 드러나는 핵심주제를 검토 한다. 즉 필자는 『나를 따르라』에 나타나는 두 가지 중심 사상이 정의와 평화임을 분석하면서, 이 정의와 평화는 본회퍼에게 매우 사회정치적인 주제였음을 드러낸다 이러한 관점에서『나를 따르라』에 드러나는 제자도는 사회정치적인, 그리하여 공적인 제자도로 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper pursues a public reading of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's Discipleship. In so doing, the paper shows that discipleship Bonhoeffer suggests for us today in Discipleship is a public discipleship which must be realized in the public areas such as politics and society. For doing this, the paper first analyzes John H. Yoder's interpretation of Bonhoeffer's discipleship. According to Yoder, Bonhoeffer's discipleship in Discipleship can be understood an existential one which reflects Bonhoeffer's own inner experiences and changes. Therefore, he argues that Bonhoeffer's discipleship lacks any kind of social and ethical meanings. Unlike this interpretation, then, the paper tries to seek for the public implications of Bonhoeffer's discipleship in Discipleship in two ways. First is from a biological perspective. The paper argues that Bonhoeffer's Discipleship includes Bonhoeffer's social and political situations such as his engagement with the Church Struggle. Second, the paper shows that the main themes of Discipleship are justice and peace which are clearly social, political, and ethical issues. Given the above observations, the paper comes to a conclusion that Bonhoeffer's Discipleship must be read in a public way.
