인격성의 폭력과 탈신화화: 신정론적 발상에 대한 불트만 해석학의 처방을 시도하며

국문 초록

본 논문은 세월호 사고와 같은 비극적 사건에 대한 해명을 위해 신의 의지적인 개인을 말하는 신정론적 발상이 지니고 있는 신화적 사유의 문제를 들추어 내고 이를 극복하기 위한 방안으로 신화에 대한 해석학적 성찰을 통해 보다 적절하게 이해하는 길을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 신화적 사유의 뼈대를 이루는 의인화와 이의 핵심적 개념으로서의 인격성으로 신을 이해하고 묘사하는 신정론적 발상의 의도하지 않은 왜곡과 억압이 초래하는 노예화의 문제를 비판한다. 그리고 이와 동시에 그 안에 깔린 해방적인 의미를 재구성하기 위해 탈신화화를 제시한 루돌프 불트만의 해석학적 연구를 집중적으로 분석한다. 구체적으로, 인간의 유한성과 신의 신비성에 대한 반응으로서의 신화가 자연 세계 안에서 벌어지는 문제 상황에 대해서 초자연적인 힘을 자연적인 차원으로 끌어들임으로써 안정을 구하려는 본능의 산물임을 밝힌다. 그러나 바로 이런 과정에서 알 수 없는 삶의 현실을 신의 의지로 해명하기 위해 인격성이라는 범주를 과도하게 신에게 적용함으로써 뜻하지 않게 신을 악마로 묘사하고 인간은 폭군이 된 신에 대한 공포와 억압으로 내몰려지게 되는 심각한 오류에 이를 수밖에 없음을 지적한다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해서 인격성이 저지르는 폭력을 고발하고 결국 신성의 전체를 싸잡을 수 없는 부적절한 범주임을 주장한다. 그리고 이에 대한 대안으로 피조세계의 자연법칙이 포함하는 무인격성이 신성에 대한 우리의 이해에 포함되어야 함을 역설한다. 아울러 신의 무인격성에 대한 인간의 무지와 미결이 인간 삶의 불가피한 요소이며 신의 적극적 탈출의 결과라는 점도 강조한다. 결국 인간이 신을 전체로 싸잡아 알려고 하는 시도가 안정욕구에서 비롯되었으나 인격성의 촉력의 원인이로되, 이를 극복하기 위해 계시가 요구하는 죽음과 모름에 대한 성찰로 삶의 뜻을 겸허하게 새길 것을 귀결시킨다. 물론 탈신화화의 해석학이 신의 존재에 대한 부정을 담고 있다는 형이상학적 반론의 부적절성을 지적함과 동시에 해석학적 성찰이 지니는 한계에 대한 적극적인 수용의 필요성도 덧붙인다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this essay is to analyze the essence of mythical thinking contained in theodicy-motif which mentions the divine intervention for the explanation of foundation-shaking disasters, and to explore the more adequate understanding through hermeneutical reflection on the problems embedded in such theodicy-motif. For this purpose, this essay thoroughly criticizes the issue of slavery caused by the unintended distortion and oppression by theodicy-motif which describes God with anthropomorphism and personality as its key notion in mythical thinking. Concomitantly, it goes on to utilize the hermeneutical study by Rudolf Bultmann who suggests ‘demythologization’ for the purpose of reconstituting the liberating significance underlying mythical thinking. More concretely, myth as the natural response to human finitude and divine mystery is to be understood as the product of human instinct which pursues the sense of security by bringing supernatural power down to natural dimension in the midst of problematic situations. However, this study also points out that mythical thinking, in its effort to explain the unfathomable reality with the concept of divine will, employs the category of personality to the notion of deity excessively and arbitrarily in such a way that God may be depicted as devil, and that people are driven to horror and oppression by such tyrannical power of God. So it tries to accuse the violences committed by the category of personality such that this category is not sufficient to the deity itself. As an alternative, this study suggests that a-personality underlying and prevailing in the created order of nature should be included in our understanding of deity. It concludes that since human attempt at grasping the entire diety comprehensively appears to be the chief cause of the violence of personality, we should understand the significance of life through reflecting on death and unknowing of which divine revelation urges us to be conscious.
