국문 초록

이 연구는 학습자들이 스스로 문제를 해결하는 문제중심학습에서 학습자들의 학습경험과 어려움을 파악하여 이를 토대로 문제중심학습 운영 전략을 도출하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 문제중심학습을 경험한 75명의 학습자들로부터 그들의 학습경험, 어려움, 그리고 요구사항에 대한 의견을 수집 ·분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학습자들은 문제를 해결하기 위해 문제분석, 의견제시, 논의, 자료수집 및 분석, 해결안구성, 발표 등의 활동을 하였다. 둘째, 학습자들은 문제 중심학습 경험을 통해 문제해결과정, 집단지성, 연구방법 등에 대해 학습하였고, 향후에는 보다 적극적으로 참여하고, 많은 자료를 수집․활용할 것이라고 다짐하였다. 셋째, 학습자들은 문제 이해 및 분석, 자료수집, 이해, 내용 선택, 문제해결안 도출, 발표 등 문제해결의 전 과정과 팀 활동 수행에서 어려움을 경험했다고 하였다. 넷째, 학습자들은 교수자들로부터 문제해결에 도움이 되는 힌트, 예시, 피드백 등이 더 많이 이루어지는 것이 필요하다고 하였다. 종합하면, 문제중심학습에서 학습자들은 다양한 활동을 통해 의미있는 학습경험을 하지만, 그러한 활동을 수행하는 과정에서 많은 어려움을 겪고 있으며 교수자가 이에 대한 도움을 제공하기 원하고 있다. 그러나 학습자들이 원하는 도움은 대부분 문제중심학습의 가치를 하락시킬 수 있는 것들이다. 따라서 교수자는 먼저 학습자들이 겪는 어려움이 어떠한 교육적 의미가 있는지 안내하고 격려해야 하며, 그 후에 문제중심학습이 지향하는 교육철학 범위 내에서 필요한 도움을 제공해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify the learning experiences and difficulties of learners in problem based learning, in which learners solve problems on their own, and to derive problem based learning implementation strategies based on them. To do this, 75 learners who experienced problem based learning attended and presented their experiences, difficulties and suggestions. The learners’ experiences and thoughts are shown as follows; First, learners did various activities to solve problems such as analyzing the problem, discussion, collecting and studying resources, making solutions, and presentation. Second, learners studied problem-solving skills, collective intelligence and so on from the experience of problem based learning and pledged that will participate more actively in team activities, and collect and use many resources in the next PBL class. Third, learners had difficulties in PBL such as understanding and analyzing the context of problems, collecting and selecting resources, making solutions, etc. Fourth, learners suggested that they require helpful tips, examples, feedback, and guidelines from their tutor. In summary, learners had meaningful learning experiences in problem based learning but they struggled in those activities and they wanted to have assistance from a tutor. However, what learners wanted would depreciate the value of problem based learning. Therefore, the tutor should consider and explain to the learners the underlying difficulties within the course and the educational meaning and thus facilitate appropriate teaching based on the philosophy of PBL.
