국문 초록

본 연구는 사회연결망분석(social network analysis) 기법 가운데 ERGM의 이론적 배경을 소개하고 실제 분석 사례를 제시함으로써 해당 방법론에 대한 이해를 높이는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 네트워크 구조는 거시구조(macro-structure)와 미시구조(micro-structure) 간의 역학을 통해 형성되는데, ERGM은 네트워크의 구조적 효과와 더불어 행위자 효과를 통계적으로 검증 가능하게 해준다는 장점이 있다. 이에 본 연구는 Park & Rethemeyer(2014)의 연구에서 사용된 정책 네트워크 데이터를 이용하여, ERGM을 통해 관찰된 네트워크를 재현하는 과정을 기술하고, 모형화 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 디제너러시 문제를 통제하는 방법 및 파라미터 계수값의 해석에 대해 설명하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to introduce the ERGM (Exponential Random Graph Model), a method that allows us to analyze social network data stochastically. The method gained its popularity since the publications of stochastic approaches to social network analysis in a special issue of Social Networks (2007), and it has made significant contributions to the fields of public policy and public management. This article focuses primarily on the interpretation of parameter estimations of network specifications from an ERGM. By examining the two datasets used in Park and Rethemeyer’s (2014) study on the policy network, this article describes a network structure that emerges out of interactions between a given macro-structure and micro-structures among individuals within the network. This article also illustrates two network structures-one centralized core-periphery structure and one polarized structure-and their distinctive sets of network specifications.
