국문 초록

본 연구는 제약･바이오 산업을 중심으로 연구개발비를 과도하게 자본화시키는지 살펴본다. 구체적으로 제약･바이오 산업에 속한 기업이 타 업종 속한 기업에 비해 자본화된 연구개발비가 기업가치에 더 긍정적인 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 본 연구의 실증분석결과, 제약･바이오 기업에 속한 기업은 자본화된 연구개발비는 기업가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 제약･바이오 산업에 속한 기업 중 이익조정유인이 높은 기업은 자본화된 연구개발비가 기업가치에 긍정적인 영향을 미치지 않았으며, 오히려 연구개발비 중 비기대자본화부분은 기업가치에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 제약･바이오 산업에 속한 기업 중 이익조정의 유인이 높은 기업은 연구개발비의 자본화 경향이 높음을 시사한다. 본 연구의 결과는 이익조정유인이 큰 회사 및 비기대자본화비중이 높은 회사에 대해 집중적인 테마감리가 필요함을 보여준다. 제약･바이오 산업에 대한 테마감리가 논란이 되고 있는 현 시점에서 본 연구의 결과는 정책당국뿐만 아니라 자본시장의 이해관계자들과 후속연구자들에게 유용한 정보가 될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study examines whether R&D capitalization is excessive in the pharmaceutical and bio industries. Specifically, firms in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries analyze whether capitalized R&D costs have a more positive impact on firm value than firms in other industries. This result of the empirical analysis of this study, companies in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms show that the capitalized R&D costs have a positive effect on the firm value. However, among firms in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, companies with high earnings management incentives do not have a positive effect on the firm value of the capitalized R&D costs, and the unexpected capitalization R&D costs have a negative effect on the firm value. This suggests that firms with a high incentive to earnings management tend to capitalize R&D costs among firms belonging to the pharmaceutical and bio industries. The results of this study show that intensive theme supervision is need for companies with high incentive earnings management and those with high unexpected capitalization ratios. As the theme supervision of the pharmaceutical industry and bio industry is being controversial, the results of this study provide useful information for stakeholders and followers of the capital market as well as policy makers.
