국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 국제적 전후관계에서 청일전쟁(1894-1895)에 관한 사료와 연구를 소개하는데 있다. 제2차 세계대전 이후 전쟁당사국(조선, 청, 일본)뿐만 아니라 주요 이해관계국(영국, 러시아, 독일, 프랑스, 미국)도 이 전쟁에 관련된 공문서와 사문서를 개방하고 있다. 다른 한편으로 그들은 일반적으로 전쟁과 외교에 관하여 특별히 전쟁중 각국의 태도와 정책에 관하여 연구하여 왔다. 주로 지역적 관점에서 전쟁의 배경과 전쟁의 직접 계기와 평화의 근접 결과와 더불어 중요한 전투와 외교 교섭에 치중하였다. 그러나 이들은 아직도 불충분하고 전투사나 외교사의 시점에서 부분적으로 단편적인 면을 탈피하지 못한 것 같다. 따라서 전 지구적 견지에서 전쟁의 기원과 그 진전 및 평화의전망을 보충하여야 할 것이다. 또한 당사국과 간섭국의 정책결정과정에 관심을 집중하고 군사전략과 외교정책을 통하여 청일전쟁에 대한 국제관계사를 총체적으로 검토할 만하다. 더 나아가 우리는 각국의 대외정책에 관한 심층 동인도 분석할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The object of this paper is to present the sources and studies of the sinojapanese war(1894-1895) in the international context. After the second world war, not only the belligerent parties(Korea, China, Japan) but also the principal interested parties(England, Russia, Germany, France, the United States) opened the public archives and private papers concerning this war. On the other hand, they investigated in general the war and the peace, in particular the attitude and the policy of each country during the war. Mainly these studies tend to focus on the background of the war, immediate cause of the war and the direct result of the peace, from the regional point of view, as well as the important battle and negotiations. But it seems that they are not sufficient and especially they are partial and fragmentary in the military and diplomatic history. Consequently it is necessary to explain, from the global point of view, the origins of the war, its evaluation and the perspectives of the peace. Also we will attempt to pay attention to the decision making process of the belligerent countries and the principal interested countries, and to examine totally by strategy and foreign policy the international history of the sinojapanese war. Further we can expect to analyze the profound motives of the foreign policy of each country.
