부평 지역 근대경관의 보존에 관한 쟁점

국문 초록

부평의 근대경관은 1899년 부평역이 개설되면서 형성되기 시작하였다. 특히 1930년대 말 일본군의 조병창이 들어서면서 관련된 공장들이 들어서고, 노동자가 밀집되면서 도시화가 진행되면서 근대경관으로 변화는 가속화하였다. 근대화 과정에서 부평은광이 개발되고, 조병창을 보호하기 위한 토굴이 굴착되었다. 일제강점기에 형성된 조병창에 부품과 무기를 공급하는 공장들이 들어서면서 광장의 근로자들의 숙소와 주택들이 건설되었다. 특히 삼릉지역의 미쓰비시 사택과 산곡동의 영단주택은 현재까지 그 모습을 유지하고 있다. 광복 후 조병창과 그 주변의 공장들은 모두 미군부대로 전환하였다. 이미군기지는 보급기지 역할을 하였다. 한국전쟁 중에 미군은 더 많은 부대를 이곳에 주둔시켰고, 이곳을 애스컴 시티라고 불렀다. 1970년대 초 애스컴 시티의 기능이 축소되어 캠프마켓으로 불리게 되었다. 캠프마켓은 부대이전으로 인천시에 반환되어 부평공원과 부영공원으로 바뀌었다. 부평지역에 남아 있는 부평의 근대경관은 대부분 ‘부(負)의 경관’으로 인식되고 있어 보존해야 되느냐의 문제에 직면하고 있다. 하지만 네거티브 문화유산도 역사상 더 이상 이런 비극이 있어서는 안 된다는 교훈을 남기기 위해 보존이 필요하다.

영문 초록

The modern landscape of Bupyeong area began to be formed in 1899 when Bupyeong Station was opened. Especially in the late 1930s, as the arms factory of the Japanese army and the related factories entered and the urbanization proceeded with the workers concentration, the mordern landscape accelerated. During the modernization process, Bupyeong silvermine was developed and the cave excavated to protect the arms factory. Houses and houses of workers were built by entering factories supplying parts and weapons to Jobyeongchang(the arms factory) formed during the Japanese colonial period. Especially, Mitsubishi company houses in Samreung area and a housing corporation’ houses in Sanggok-dong have remained in shape until now. After the liberation, Jobyeongchang and its surrounding factories all turned into US military base. This military base served as a supply base. During the Korean War, the US forces stationed more troops here and called it Ascomcity. In the early 1970s, the function of Ascomcity was reduced to become a camp market. The camp market was returned to the Incheon city after the transfer of the unit, and it became Bupyeong Park and Buyeong Park. Most of the modern landscapes which remain in Bupyeong, are recognized as negative cityscapes and face the problem of preserving them. But negative cultural heritage also needs to be preserved in order to leave the lesson that history should no longer have this tragedy.
