국내 여학생 신체활동 참여에의 상관요인에 관한 체계적 문헌고찰:

국문 초록

신체활동이 신체적·정신적 건강에 미치는 이로운 영향은 이미 여러 연구들을 통해 보고된 바 있으며, 이에 따라 세계 각국 정부의 주요보건정책 중 하나는 국가의 미래를 책임질 아동청소년의 신체활동 활성화이다. 대한민국 현 박근혜정부가 제시한 140대 국정과제 중 하나 또한 ‘문화예술·체육교육 활성화를 통한 꿈과 끼의 발산’이다. 하지만, 국내 여자 아동청소년의 신체활동량은 아직 기대치에 도달하지 못하고 있다. 이러한 시점에서 신체활동 참여에의 상관·결정요인에 대한 체계적 고찰 및 이를 바탕으로 한 종합적 논의는 현 정부가 이끄는 체육교육 활성화 정책의 성공적인 전략수립과 운영에 중요한 정보를 제공할 것으로 사료된다. 따라서 본 연구는 Spence 와 Lee (2003)가 제시한 신체활동에의 생태체계이론 (Ecological model of physical activity)을 바탕으로 국내 여자 아동청소년 (5-19세)들의 신체활동 참여에의 상관요인을 보고한 문헌의 체계적 고찰을 통하여, 여학생 신체활동 증진을 위한 전략에 중요한 정보를 제공하고자 하였다. 문헌고찰 (N=47)의 결과, 국내 여자 아동청소년의 신체활동의 영향을 미치는 요인들은 1) 개인적(n=36), 2) 미시적 (n=19), 3) 중간적 (n=21), 4) 외적 (n=2), 5) 거시적 체계 (n=15)로 분류되어 고찰되었다. 여학생들의 신체활동에 영향을 미치는 개인적 요인으로는 자아존중감, 신체적 자기개념, 재미요인, 신체활동에 대한 부정적 인식, 체중 등이; 미시적 요인으로는 신체활동을 위한 시설과 장비의 부족, 교우관계 등이; 중간적 요인으로는 체육수업의 내용과 진행방식 및 평가, 반의 구성(혼성/비 혼성)과 체육교사의 수업방식 및 피드백 등이; 거시적 요인으로는 타 과목의 중요성 및 체육수업 내 성차별 등이 일관성 있게 보고되었다. 대한민국의 고정화된 성역할과 체육수업 내 성차별이 국내 여학생들의 신체활동 참여에 근본적인 장애요소로 작용하는 것으로 사료된다. 본 논문의 결과는 국내 여학생들의 신체활동 증진을 위한 보건 및 교육정책 수립과 향후연구에 중요한 시사점을 제시한다. 향후 여학생의 신체활동 참여에의 상관·결정요인 규명을 위한 연구는 현존하는 건강 분야의 검증된 이론들을 바탕으로 한 연구의 설계가 이루어져야 한다. 또한, 여학생의 신체활동에 대한 종합적인 이해를 위해서는 체육시간 내 신체활동 이외의 신체활동 (생활체육활동, 등하교 등의 이동 중 신체활동, 스포츠클럽활동)에 대한 측정이 요구된다.

영문 초록

The benefits of physical activity (PA) on physical and psychological health among children and adolescents are well established. Thus, promotion of physical activity is part of public health strategy in most Western countries. One of the mandates of the Korean government is to strengthen cultural and individual capacity among young people. Though some efforts (e.g., educational reform) have taken place to promote girls’ participation in PA in a school setting to achieve the mandate, the overall level of PA among girls is still insufficient. This study systematically reviewed evidence (N=47) of the correlates of PA among Korean girls aged 5-19 years using an ecological model of PA (EMPA)(Spence and Lee, 2003) as an organizing theoretical framework. Results were categorized into five levels and reviewed respectively: 1) individual factors (n=36), 2) micro-system (n=19), 3) meso-system (n=21), 4)exo-system (n=2), and 5) macro system (n=15). Self-esteem, physical self-concept, enjoyment of PA, negative perceptions on PA, body weight at the individual level; lack of facilities and proper equipments in schools, and peer relations in the micro-system; physical education (PE) curriculum (i.e., contents, evaluation, co-ed/single gender) and PE teachers (teaching style, feedback) in the meso-system, lack of time due to education and gender inequality in PE class in the macro-system appear to be the most consistent correlates of PA among Korean girls. Traditional gender roles under the influence of Confucianism and gender inequality in PE class appear to play roles in preventing girls from being physically active. It is expected that the results will provide important information to policy makers and researchers in developing effective interventions and public health strategies to promote PA among Korean girls. More theory-driven research is needed to identify correlates and determinants of a broader range of PA (e.g., habitual physical activity, active transport, organized sports) among Korean girls.
