국문 초록

본 연구는 IASB가 제안한 현금흐름표의 개선안에 대한 다양한 견해들을 분석하여, 잠재적 문제점을 제시하고 대체적 방안을 모색한다. 특히, 본 연구는 직접법에 의한 현금흐름표 작성 및 제시에 초점을 맞추어 분석한다. 현행 국제회계기준 (IFRS)는 직접법과 간접법을 모두 허용하고 있으나, 새로운 제안은 직접법만을 허용하고 있다. 작성자인 기업들은 직접법에 의한 비용부담으로 인해 간접법을 선호하는 것으로 분석되었다. 그러나 대부분의 경영자와 재무분석가와 같은 이용자들은 직접법이 간접법 보다 의사결정에 더 유용하고, 재무제표의 응집 목적 및 구분 목적을 달성할 수 있다는 의견을 나타냈다. 전반적으로 대부분의 의견은 직접법에 원칙적으로 동의하지만 실무적 측면에서 일부 반대하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 또한 간접법에 의한 현금흐름표를 직접법에 의한 현금흐름표로 변화시키는 대체적 방안을 제시하고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes different views on the newly proposed cash flows statement by IASB, identifying potential problems and suggesting alternative approaches. Specifically, this study focuses on cash flows statement which allows only direct method of presenting firm’s operating activities. The current IFRS allows an entity to choose either direct or indirect method, while the proposed IFRS allows direct method only. Preparers prefer indirect method to direct method because of cost burdens for the direct method. However, most managements and financial analysts view that the direct method presentation is more decision-useful, and achieves the cohesiveness and disaggregation of presentation objectives. Overall, various constituents across nations agree with potential benefits of direct method with some observations. This paper also suggests alternative (compromising) approach to both direct and indirect method, by converting the indirect method presentation into the direct method presentation.
